** UPDATE - someone DINGED the car!!!*** Absolutely Terrified - I think i'm using it correctly THIS TIME...
of driving the new car we just purchased!!! We picked it up today and DH asked me if I wanted to drive it and I said NO.. I know I'm gonna have to get over the fear, but I just imagined myself pulling it out of the lot all shiny and new..and then BAM...someone hits us.
Anyone else ever feel this way when they drive a new car?
UPDATE:
I cannot believe people!! I went to Target in Queens (Whitestone) and parked FAAAR and away from cars on purpose to avoid this from happening. Sure enough I come out and some a-hole not only dinged the right side bumper, but took paint off as well and the mark is BIG!! I am so livid..I don't even want to drive it anymore because it seems you can't have anything nice in NY! I know it's going to happen, but damn we've only had the car 2 days!!!

i personally think the more you think about something (the safer you will try to driver) the more likely something "may" happened as you may do things out of norm....
as much as we would like cars to stay new, its bound to happen as we can't control other drivers, etc...

I was nervous when we first got the new car, but I didn't hesitate to drive it! I could not wait to get behind the wheel. I also did the test drive, DH sat in the backseat!

I was overly cautious when we got my first brand new car. Once we got the first ding, I was over it. It is kind of hard to get upset when a pebble nicks the glass on your windshield on the JRP in Bklyn. Totally out of my control. I'm simply happy to have all four tires at the end of the day given where I work.

Re: Absolutely Terrified - I think i'm using it correctly THIS TIME...
EVERYTIME I get a new car some a-hole dings my door in a parking lot. EVERY SINGLE TIME!
Is it so hard to open your door without hitting into someone's car?!?!?!?!
ETA: I used to part FAR away from everyone else to avoid dings, until I came of target to find not one, but two dings. Lesson learned...when park out in the open, far away from anyone else your a shopping cart magnet!

Re: Absolutely Terrified - I think i'm using it correctly THIS TIME...
First of all, congrats!!!
Second of all, I know what you mean. I had my car 2 weeks and an old lady PARKED INTO IT while I was in the bank. That was lovely! The night before, DH said that I better not get a ding. Way to go jinxing us! Anyway, I am careful where I park, that's for sure. A little exercise in the parking lot never hurts!

Re: Absolutely Terrified - I think i'm using it correctly THIS TIME...
Well..I finally did it! I drove it..LOL! Granted it was only a few blocks..but I did it (and very cautiously at that).
That is another fear of both mine and my DH's. We live on a block that is ALWAYS crowded with cars. If we can't get the parking spot right in front of our house (where no one can park in front or behind us) we are parking it by the cemetery. Yes..I live near St. Raymonds..LOL! NO ONE bothers your car over there!

Re: Absolutely Terrified - I think i'm using it correctly THIS TIME...
The day after we brought my new car home I had to drive it to work. By the time I got there I was literally SHAKING. That's how nervous I was. It takes a week or so- but it does wear off!

That is disgusting!!! First of all, that parking lot sucks, but if you parked in guam (as i like to call parking very very far away) then still have it happen???

That really sucks
My MIL was SO protective of her new car a few years ago. It was sleek, and white, and beautiful. But she got over that. Luckily she did, because maybe a year ago my FIL hit her car while we were right there outside and she was pizzed. I think had the car been newer she would have killed him.
