Update- Cavities in Toddler? I am upset
Thanks for the responses! It was just some FOOD!! I scraped it OUT!!
I noticed what looked like something green behind his top right tooth. I thought it was broccoli rabe or something and tried to get it out with his toothbrush but nothing.
Then at daycare they told me it could be a cavity. They asked if I let him sleep with a bottle and i have NEVER allowed this.
He is 16 months--I know its not life -threatening, but does this happen? what should I do?

Take him to the dentist. It could be a stain and they can get it off.

does it need to be a pediatric dentist? it is behind the tooth--can that still be a stain?

Re: Cavities in Toddler? I am upset
Is it an indent? Jeremy has decalcification on his front top teeth. We go to a ped dentist every 3 months and they put varnishy type stuff on it from getting any worse. Maybe that is what you need. For the record I never let him sleep with bottles or that on his teeth. The dentist told me it just happens sometimes.

Re: Cavities in Toddler? I am upset
I heard black and green stains are actually usually associated w/a healthy mouth. Does he have the black stains too? Usually the green stains (bacteria) grow after the black ones. They are hard to remove but the dentist should be able to get rid of it. You can try baking soda first.

My DD sees and AMAZING (IMO) Peds dental practice. They have an office in Manhasset and N. Babylon. FM me if you want more info. DD has has problems with her teeth since she was little, and even had to get a baby tooth pulled b/c of crowding in her mouth and they were wonderful ! !

Is this Kidsmiles??? We go there too. Dr. Samini is wonderful!!!
Yes, toddlers can get cavities. I was surprised when Dr. Samini mentioned this last month when we took DS there. She said, besides no bottle in bed, be careful of anything sticky that might cause a cavity. Not just candy but other things like raisins! I was surprised by the raisins. I had no idea.

We took DS to a pediatric dentist. He had black stains behind the teeth. They were from too much iron. They got them off. I am sure a regular dentist could help you too, but a pediatric dentist probably has more experience with toddlers. We went to Dr Nesnay

Re: Cavities in Toddler? I am upset
I work for a dentist...its not uncommon for a toddler to get a cavity, so yes, it could be decay - but it could also be staining. You dont necesarily have to take them to a pediatric dentist if the dentist you use sees children as well he/she may be fine for DC to see. good luck!
