Update from my not 1, not 2, BUT 3 doc appts today.. and vent/question (long)

So today, I had 3 appointments... Me very tired now.
- Breast surgeon
- OB Check Up (34weeks; 4days)
- Growth Sonogram

*Breast Surgeon*
The breast surgeon appt went well. The doc told me that I *should* not have problems breast feeding. He also said it's *promising* that the biopsy came back benign-- whatever that means.

But at the end of the day, the mass is benign and rarely turns cancerous. He wants me to have a mammogram a month after I deliver, which freaks me out a bit since I am 33 and feel like I am way too young to have a mammogram, but I know it's all precautionary.

I also finally spoke with a lactation consultant who told me I shouldn't have issues either-- and that every mom has one breast that is more productive than the other, so perhaps my right boob just won't be as productive. We shall see... She is also going to reach out to her network of other LC's to see if they have ever worked with a mom with my diagnosis. But, all seems to be ok on this front, I just have to monitor size.

*OB Check Up*
Onto the OB appt. I saw another doc in the practice because my doc is on vacation. Everything went fine, uterus is measuring on schedule, good weight, etc. Then he says, ok-- you'll come back and see Dr. Z in two weeks. I am like, , I thought Dr. Z said I should come back weekly after this visit. This guy says no... NOW, he would be the one I would see next week since my doc is still on vacay-- I am thinking MAYBE he didn't want another patient to see next week???? Who knows.

SO, I reminded him that I am going to be 35 weeks on Thursday. His response, you ask-- "Congratulations". I am like, f*ck you buddy-- I am just trying to make sure I am seeing the docs as much as appropriate. I am getting close to my due date and am getting nervous and just want to be monitored as I should be. I don't give a f*ck that it's the end of the year and everyone is on vacation. I just ended up leaving it-- and was like, ok whatever. I'll make an appt to see Dr. Z when he is back. What the f*ck is up with that response to me?????

Then I go to make the doc appt, and they ask how many weeks I am, and then tell me they only have one time available for when I need to come back. Isn't the customer service supposed to improve the closer you get to your due date????

Also, no one at the practice-- not my doc, not the appointment secretaries, NO ONE said anything to me about attending a "Meet the Doctors Night". At my last appt, I asked my doc when do I meet everyone else- and he said oh, you haven't gone to one of the nights? Uh no-- no one told me to. So, I have been trying to find out when the next one is for the last 3 weeks. The date hadn't been set I guess cause of the holidays. From what I gathered, they are usually like the first Monday of the month.

Guess when the next one is??? Jan 26th. Um, I am due Jan 29th. Thanks for letting me know!! Honestly, I don't even give a sh!t. At this point, anyone can pull this baby out of me. I don't particularly care for my doc the longer I see him-- so, unless I am having a c-section (he is supposed to be a great surgeon), it does not matter to me, we don't have a "relationship". But, I can't believe no one said-- make sure you attend this event by XX weeks in your pregnancy. Jackarses.

So, my questions are:
- When did you start seeing your docs weekly?
- When did you start internals?
- Do you feel the closer you get, your docs spend a little more time with you and are a bit more attentive since you are so close??

My friend who recco'd this doc said to me-- that while we are high-risk, we have had healthy pregnancies, so to these docs-- they can breeze through our visits since there are other people who have serious issues. Ok, I get that-- but, this is still my first pregnancy and I don't care-- I am just as nervous and need just as much hand-holding. It's all relative.

*Growth Sono*
Baby is measuring at 4lbs; 8 oz at 34weeks;4days... Tech said I should expect a 6 to 6.5lb baby with 5 weeks to go. I figured the little alien would be small since I was so small and DH wasn't a big baby-- despite us not really being little people now (we are both on the tall side). But, at least I know that while the baby is on the small side-- it's still measuring normal despite my freakish baby belly.


That's my story... Now I need a nap and a cookie.

ugh, sorry that was a such a trying day for you. Sounds like the OB you saw today was a wiseasss....which wouldn't bother if I knew him and we had that type of relationship, but since you don't i think it was entirely inappropriate and unprofessional.

I'm not there yet (i'm only 32 weeks) but my OB said the weekly visits start at 36 weeks which would coincide with my growth sono at 36 weeks...so I'd have my 32 wk appt this wednesday, then 34 wk appt, then 36 wk, then every week after. I haven't asked about internals yet. I don't feel like they've spent any more time with me...as a matter of fact I feel like my appts get shorter and shorter, then again, I have yet to have the growth sono or internals so maybe that takes more time?

I just started to see my OB weekly at 36 weeks ( 36,37,38) ...As for internals, no clue. since I was a previa case, I skated out of those ...I think my OB was pretty attentive all along, not more now or less really...A matter of fact he is going away and won't be there for my 38 week final visit ( Im delivering at 39 weeks) and I was pretty bummed because I found that out through the receptionist

It usually starts weekly at 36 weeks and internal from there every visit.

Sorry your obgyn and the sub was rude - I started going for weekly visits at 34 weeks. I started 2 visits per week at 37 weeks because I had pre-eclampsia. FWIW - I ended up with an emergency c/s with someone I never met before he performed the c/s on me. After speaking with a number of people I think having your actual dr perform the delivery is getting rarer and rarer.

i've been getting bi-annual sonograms and mammograms on my breasts since i was 28... i am 31. i found a large lump in my breast when i was 28 and had to have it removed. it was benign, but that was only confirmed after a biopsy. my mom is a breast cancer survivor, so my breast surgeon who was also my mom, was like get it out of there! depending on what yours is, you mgiht want to the same. FM if you need to and I LOVE LOVE LOVE my breast doctor if you want to get a second opinion.

Whoa- trying day! I don't see my doc weekly until AFTER my 36 week appointment so that sounds ok. I didn't see my doc this morning either, just the nurse practitioner since my doc is on vacy too. I actually liked her better since she is very talkative and gave me lots of information. I love my OB but he is do busy- our appointment go kind of quick.

I have 3 potential other who could deliver my baby and haven't meet any of them. There is only one I don't want based on friends who delivered with her but I guess when the times comes, I really don't have much of a choice. My Doc said he not on vacation at all around my due date and that he would 90% chance be my doc so I am trying not to worry. Honestly, I pushed my DD out so fast the last time, a NURSE delivered her so it really doesn't matter unless there are complications.

So all sounds about normal but they could be a little more understanding. They let me make ALL my final appointments today so I don't have to take the only available time. I never had a problem getting an appointment when I needed- that is rediculous!

my practice does internals at 36 weeks. Then starts your weekly apt.

Weekly appts begin at 36 weeks for me.
They haven't mentioned internals yet- but I have that strep B swab test at 36 weeks (is that the same as an internal???not really sure!)

try not to feel rushed even when they make you feel like that---ask as many questions as you need to- and don't let them rush you out until you are satisfied.

i wanna say weekly appts started at 34 weeks...internals started at week 36?? man i should keep a journal i can't remember jack!

I started seeing my dr. weekly at 36 weeks. I had my only internal at that time. I see him tomorrow for my 40 week appointment and will get an internal then.

I can see how frustrated you are. On my 34 week appointment they told me to come back in 2 weeks (which was yesterday) I thought it was odd at the time because I thought I was supposed to start my weekly visits. This new dr. I am seeing starts weekly visits starting week 36 so from now on I'll be seeing him weekly. Everyone has their own way of doing things and it can be quite a challenge, specially at a multi doctor practice. Hang in there!!!
