my dr is cancelling my IUI He's 99.9% sure he is anyway. He told me I have too many follicles that would trigger (at least 15) and that it's too much of a risk that he's not willing to take. He said he doesn't want to see me on CNN having the first octuplets in NY thru IUI. I'm heartbroken right now. I've been crying since he told me. I just broke down in his office, I couldn't control myself. He feels terrible and I feel bad that I made him feel even worse now, but I couldn't find the strength to hold it in. I asked him about converting my IUI cycle to IVF and he said he can't because he doesn't have a lab. I guess it's too late to make arrangements w/ the lab they use- but they don't have their own on premises. Thank you for your good wishes. I don't know that I'll be on here anymore today... I'll try once I find some strength but right now I just don't have any...
OMG You cant imagine how sorry I am for you. Please dont lose faith or hope. I cant believe this happend??? I am going to pray for you. That the hand of God comes right now to comfort you and give you strength and to please give you a word from some where so you will feel his love and presence. You are not alone.

I am so sorry you're going through this.
Is there another practice your doctor is affiliated with in order to convert to IVF? It's frustrating to me to hear that your roadblock is a logistics issue.

Re: Bad news...
I almost cried reading your post. To be honest I was worried that you responded too well to the meds. I wish I had some great words to say, but please don't give up. At least you know you can produce eggs and a good quantity. Speaking from someone who can't do that, I think that is something positive. I know you are not looking to do IVF, but hopefully you will be able to.
Then don't forget, sometimes freaky things happen in an off cycle after all these meds. Give yourself a few days.
Are you allowed to BD this cycle? Or is that too risky?
We're here for you.

Re: Bad news...
Im sorry.
I had a feeling it might be when you said how many follies were there.
My Dr would cancel if more then 5 over 10 showed at any point.
The good news is your a good responder, and in this madness of Infertility, you have to focus on the good, or find good in anything or you will not survive it.
Good luck moving forward!

Re: Bad news...
I am sorry they are cancelling your cycle and although you aren't thinking so right now, it's not a horrible thing.
You know how well you respond to the meds and honestly, you would be an awesome candidate for IVF. I know, I had two cancelled IUI cycles and did great when I moved to IVF.
The positive side is that you won't have OHSS. Because you aren't triggering, the follicles will just release at their own rate and/or dissapate. You won't have to deal with your ovaries swelling to immense proportions. I know you don't want to think about it right now, but I ended up in the hospital due to OHSS and had to have my abdomen drained twice...it was horrible.
Your Dr. is doing the right thing by cancelling the cycle. If he did trigger you, you would almost certainly end up in the hospital or be in very bad shape for a few weeks. Don't forget how uncomfortable you were a few months ago and that was only 3 or 4 mature follies.
You are in my thoughts...I am hoping for the best for you.

I'm so sorry that happened. I'm going to start injectables next month and my RE has expressed concern that this may happen to me also. She will try to prevent it, but I'm going into the cycle thinking that it's a possibility I may have to cancel it if I respond too well.

Sorry to hear that - as others have said, on a bright note, you have growing follicles!! Maybe now he can adjust your next plan. I know it's disappointing, nobody wants to have that happen. I still think good thoughts for you and know that it will happen

I'm so so so sorry, I can only imagine the disappointment and frustration And remember, you don't have to be strong right now - let yourself feel everything you're feeling. It's the richness and beauty of life, and going through it will give you unspoken strength for the next round of battles you have to face

i know this is a super sensitive topic, and i am not judging AT ALL, but would your doctor consider going through with the IUI if you agreed to selective termination (ugh i hate that word)?
having never dealt with IF, i don't even know what the other consequences of going through with an IUI at this point would be, i was just wondering if that was something that was discussed - or if it's something you would even want to consider.
ugh i hope that came out right.
i am so, so sorry you are dealing with this.
actually, her doctor is doing the responsible thing here. Selective reduction done rather late into the first trimester, and I would assume that with that amount of high order multiples it would be rather risky to the entire pregnancy should she ever find herself in that position.
MrsM - Would you husband even consider IVF at this point? You respond well to the meds as an IVF paitent. (I don't mean for this cycle, but for a future cycle).
Thanks ladies. I do agree, I know he's doing what's best for me. Honestly, if it ever came to that I don't think that I could do selective reduction, and hope never to be in that situation.

Thanks. I was a little worried but was trying not to be since he didn't seem to be. I agree, it is positive that I at least now know that i can produce a good quantity of eggs. I am not sure if I'm allowed to BD yet. I'm waiting for a call from my dr to find out where we go from here. DH was all set to just try on our own but I would think that could have the same outcome as an IUI so I told him to stay away from me Thanks- I don't know what I'd do w/o all of you ladies!!!

Re: UPDATE in 1st post: Bad news...
Like many of the girls said you are a GREAT responder which will make this successful. Have they thought about doing IVF instead of cancelling all together?

thanks, yes I asked him about it but he doesn't have a lab so it's not an option.

Re: UPDATE in 1st post: Bad news...
I am so glad you are able to be a little more optimistic today. I hope that fertility lifelines can figure something out for you insurance-wise. Since you did the same protocol this cycle, couldn't you do it again the next cycle and start it off as IUI - and if you have the same outcome, switch to IVF? That way all the tests would be billed as IUI? I know you really like your doctor, but maybe you might want to switch to a dr. that has a lab in-house? That way you can change an IUI to an IVF cycle more easily? Maybe you can also start looking into IVF grants. I'm sorry you have to go through all of this. I wish you lived closer so I could take you out for some ice cream!!

Re: UPDATE in 1st post: Bad news...
I'm so sorry this happened. Dr. Lydic is a really reasonable guy, and very smart...he did the right thing. He was my doctor for a while, and I have to say, honestly, the fact that he doesn't have a lab and can't convert an IUI cycle to an IVF is why I stopped going to him and started at LI-IVF. Well, that and the fact that it was costing me $54 every time I saw him which was sometimes twice a week and that he didn't open early enough.
But like the other girls said, you're a GREAT responder and would be an excellent candidate for IVF. I hope that will be the answer for you (which I have a great feeling it will be).
Lots of luck next time around.

Totally agree with Lauren! Especially, if you are going to paying out of pocket.
And You should definitely look into NYGrants. Some of the girls on here were able to get a grant.
Although its a disappointment with this cycle, you have a lot of answers from it. Glad to hear that your DH has changed his mind about IVF. Good Luck!
