UPDATE : It's a GO!!!! Started BCPs!: This isn't good...

I went to get everything done this morning and my blood pressure is too high. Chat Icon I KNEW this was going to happen! I even closed my eyes and tried to rest/relax on the way there... and put on some of my favorite music.
DH mentioned more than once that he was hungry so we stopped and grabbed food- which I'm sure my drink had caffiene (not to mention my food)- which I'm sure didn't help things. Chat Icon
They had me lay down for over 20 mins and checked it twice more during that time and it got HIGHER!!! Chat Icon And of course she circled the higher # to tell Dr. K, rather than the original one which was high, but still lower than the rest. Chat Icon
They gave me the prescription for BCPs but told me not to take any until they confirmed w/ Dr. K that I was allowed to- b/c they usually don't like ppl starting w/ high BP. The worst part is, it's only CD3 and she said I can start anywhere between CD3-5, but my stress level is going to get worse as we head into the weekend, not better....Chat Icon
I put a call into my regular dr's office to see if they can check it later on today--- what can I do to get it down between now and then???

Update:
I called LI-IVF this morning and left a message w/ the receptionist since the nurse was doing a sono. I told her my BP readings from March and April and then what my blood pressure was in both my left and right arms last night (b/c they were different).
The nurse called me back and confirmed w/ me that my GP dr has no issues w/ my starting on BCPs due to my elevated blood pressure. She then told me when she spoke w/ Dr K she'd call me back to let me know if I could start or not - she called me back shortly after and IT'S A GO!!! YEAH!!!!! Do you normally have high BP or is it all stress related?

when I used to be in the city it was higher than usual but for the last 2 years it's been in the normal range I'd guess, because no one has told me that it's high...

Chat Icon Hopefully Dr. K will let it go. Especially since he knows you have the grant. He's not nearly as conservative as Dr. Brenner.

I am so sorry you have this roadblock...
i dont know anything about it except do not eat ANY salt, sodium or processed foods at all, just organic until u get it lower. also do a search for apple cider vinegar... i think it helps drastically lower BP... and NO CAFFEINE or fast food, just water, and organic food.... good luck and so sorry, but u can lower BP, sometimes water pills can help... but talk to dr and start w/ change in diet 1st....

Re: This isn't good...

I was on my way to my gyn/oby about 3 years ago. I had to have a biospy of my cervix b/c I had gotten an abnormal pap. I was really nervous. On the way I got coffee. And someone cut me off on the road and really got me raging mad. And when I got there and they took my BP it was really really high. I couldn't believe it. Its never been like that again.

There must be something holistic that gets it down. I think there's some kind of garlic treatment that gets it down fast. And Fish Oil is also known to get it down. I'll have to search. Also, have a friend with high BP and she was told to follow a diet similar to the South Beach diet. Which meant staying away from bread and pasta (I guess b/c of their high sugar/carbs?, not sure why?). Or that DASH diet.

Go take a yoga class too. That will take stress away.

Re: This isn't good...

It seems you need to relax. I know a lot easier said than done, but some peope really have a high biofeedback level - it seems your BP really reacts to your what your mind is doing!
The food suggestions are all good ones, but aren't short term solutions.
Just try not to think about it so much, take a nap, have a drink, sit outside in the nice weather and read a book...

Re: This isn't good...

I agree with what everyone else said, and also, you should really be exercising - put all that anxiety and pent up energy into something active, it may just help you relax a little. I know it does for me most of the time Chat Icon

This is me! I actually feel calmer since I got home and posted on here, and had a little time. Now I just hope my regular dr. can see me today, and that it's gone down enough. Chat Icon Chat Icon
I just called my aunt and vented to her about all of the garbage going on w/ my family- and how even though I've begged to be kept out of it I keep being dragged in. I normally don't mind but now I'm furious--- b/c I flat out told everyone what we were going thru and to please lay off b/c I can't handle the extra stress right now... and they agreed to respect my wishes. Chat Icon
I'm going to take my pup out for a walk after my grandma gets out of the shower... hopefully that'll help too.
Plus I found out last night my mom has to have gallbladder surgery on Monday- anything else we can add on me today???? I always worry about my mom- I just hope this is what's actually wrong and this will fix it. Chat Icon

Re: This isn't good...

today u need to not stress about anything---- if something pops into your head, literally wave your hand to get the thought away. also, i know what will really help, meditating.... honestly, if u dont have a meditating cd/tape, go pick one up on the walk with your pup....
also, no more venting for the rest of the day. i wouldnt even take any phone calls so u dont have to talk about all thats going on..... tryo to stay off lifamilies too.... take a bubble bath, meditate, do some yoga and walk......... and BREATHE calmly..............................................

I was going to suggest a meditation CD to you too!!! I started using the IVF cycle one and I've never slept better!

Did you tell the nurse how much you have going on this weekend and it's probably just a fluke??? I hope all goes well.Chat Icon Chat Icon

I did. Supposedly she wrote it all in her notes to discuss w/ Dr. K this afternoon.

I don't know if I should call MY nurse- or just leave it at what it is at this point... I called my regular dr and the ONLY appointment I can get today is at 7:15 tonight! Chat Icon Chat Icon
I called LI-IVF to talk to the nurse there to let her know but they're out to lunch until 1:00. I guess I'll call back after 1 and see what she says. I was hoping to connect w/ her before she speaks with Dr. K, hoping that if he knew I was seeing my regular dr that he would give me a BP range that it has to be under so I can start tonight... because they'll be gone for the night by the time I get out of my dr's appointment.

Ok- just spoke w/ the nurse.
My estrodial and FSH were fine and I could've started today but due to my BP they said no. Chat Icon She told him I had plans to go to my GP dr (I finally got thru to her before he called in) to get my BP checked tonight, so he agreed that was the best thing, and to call her tomorrow morning with my results. Here's hoping it's lower tonight Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon
Then she said if all is OK I'll plan to start tomorrow, and if so, it won't affect anything else. I asked if it would push all of the other dates in my calendar my nurse sent me back a day and she said it wouldn't... it will just be 1 less BCP. I'm happy about that... though I know it doesn't really matter as things change.
I am going to head out for a little while- I'm feeling very cooped up in the house.
I'll update when I'm home from my dr.
Thanks everyone!!! Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Oh Shannon, I'm sorry about this roadblock! I don't have any advice other than what the pps have given you, I just wish you good luck and {{{{relaxing}}}} vibes. Maybe BD and see if that helps LOL.

I hope you can relax. And the gallbladder surgery is no biggie if they can do it laproscopically (sp?) My mom had that a few months ago and she was okay afterwards. It was no biggie. And she feels much better. I hope that helps to relax you a little.
I hope you can get your BP down a little bit. Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

First off deep breaths!! BP is an important thing in terms of pregnancy for your health and a baby's. I would not take this lightly and rush into a situation that could be dangerous. If you are hypertensive, then you need to treat that before putting yourself at risk. JMO!

I'm back- same blood pressure... I just don't get it. Chat Icon He took my right which was the same, then took the left and it was 4 points lower on both the top and bottom #'s (???)
My dr said it wasn't 'awful' and certainly not something he's going to treat me for as the last 2 times I was there is was fine. I wrote all the #s down and will call the nurse in the morning and await further instruction. Please Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon they say I can start BCPs in the next 2 days... Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon TIA!!
Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon
Then it's back to my dr on Monday morning to get another BP check... it'll be too late for IVF but at least he can monitor if I need to be on meds or not- though right now he's leaning toward not.

Re: UPDATE at bottom: This isn't good...

I would definitely work on the diet and maybe start to exercise - even if it's just walking at night.
You would be amazed at how a little exercise can affect your blood pressure...when I am working out regularly my BP is 60/100 and my pulse is around 50....it can really work wonders.Chat Icon

I hope you mean 100/60Chat Icon

And to OP, you should also work on some relaxation techniques. IF you are always an anxious high strung person, that will effect your BP. Try CD's, accupuncture, yoga, deep breathing.
