Update on family with the house fire - HUGE KPFD RAVE
My mother spoke to the woman who's house it was and everyone got out safely but get this......THE KPFD firemen, went into the burning house and saved ALL of their Christmas gifts for the kids.....ALL OF THEM!
Can you imagine....running into a burning home for gifts?
This is why I love Kings Park, its such a close knit, small town community and everyone looks out for one another.
It was just a little bit of a silver lining in a dark sky!

wow, very brave but IMO  dangerous! maybe the fire wasnt bad and obviously they made a judgement call but I would not want my DH running in after christmas gifts  (maybe im a grinch)
im glad everyone is safe and sound and the children's christmas will be cheery

I am really so happy to read this. When I popped on earlier today I had read your thread, along with a bunch of other sad ones and I just cried like a baby. No one should have to go through these horrible things so close to the holidays.
I am so happy this family is safe! What an amazing thing for the firefighters to do.

IT would never work in my house, I have gifts all over the place. I'd be like "Get the ones in the basement, get the ones in my closet, don't forget the ones in the bathroom shower"

I'm glad everyone was okay. My in-laws live in Kings Park and they had a house fire about 15 years ago. Their respect for the fire department is immense. The house was close to demolished and they lived in a trailer on the front lawn for quite some time. The rabbi & community from Kings Park Jewish Center offered tons of help.
I lost a friend to a house fire when we were both 12 years old. She died along with 3 family members. I hate stories of house fires and every time anyone in DH's family mentions "the fire" I feel an ache in my heart because of what happened to my friend.
Again, I am glad that this family will be okay.
