Update on Mikayla sleeping situation - NEW UPDATE

So I have been trying to put her to bed earlier each night so that she is not going down at 11 or 12 every night. I have been trying to adjust her feeding schedule but she seems to be hungry at all different times each day.....

Friday night, she went to sleep at 9 but then was up at 4 to eat, then she went back down until 7am (I am fine with this, I would rather her go to sleep early and wake up once to eat during the night)

Saturday night, she went down at 10pm and slept until 7am

Then last night, she did not go down until 12:30am and woke up at 5am to eat Chat Icon

I guess I still have to work on this schedule

I have been giving her a bath at night, then feeding her with the lights low so that maybe she will realize that it is bed time, seems to help a bit

Do you think I can try to keep her up more during the day or is she still too young....(she is 9 weeks tomorrow)

TIA girlsChat Icon

UPDATE: she is currently sleeping soundly in her crib..we'll see how it goes tonight. Chat Icon

Re: Update on Mikayla sleeping situation

I totally believe that sleep brings on sleep. When Josh is over tired by having not so great naps earlier that day, forget it. He doesn't want to go to bed, he wakes up and can't put himself back down.

I think you are doing great with the bath and the last feeding. He would go down at 8:30 and wake at 4 AM for almost a month. Now he goes on till 7. I think its going to be good nights and some great nights till she gets a little older.

Re: Update on Mikayla sleeping situation

I think 9 weeks is still early for a sleep schedule..My girls started sleeping through the night at about 4-5 months. I think what your doing is the best way. and eventually she probably will not wake for that middle of the night feeding. I did the same thing i would put them down earlier and earlier until it was 6pm and they would sleep though the night. Now they go to bed at 6:30-7 and sleep until 7:30am...good luck!

Re: Update on Mikayla sleeping situation - NEW UPDATE

I think what you're doing is grat! I really don't suggest keeping her up during the day, she will just sleep badly, as you saw the night she went to sleep late she woke up early.

maybe try to ajust her naps so that she is not taking one around 6 or 7, which she is probably doing now if she's going down around 9. If possible, give her earlier naps and have her down for the night around 8 or 8:30. So, she would nap around 3 or 4, wake up around 6 then go down after 8.

While I don't disagree that it's too soon for a schedule, I do believe that routine is key.

I agree....keeping a baby up during the day does NOT work out.

Re: Update on Mikayla sleeping situation - NEW UPDATE

Sleep begets sleep. Definitely don't wake her during the day and try to put her down for the night earlier than later. When Ava was that age, she'd go down around 10pm and wake around 6am to eat, then sleep till 8am. I finally read around that time that you can usually make a baby's bedtime earlier and they'll sleep longer, but if you put them down later, they'll wake at the same time. SO we started makign her bedtime earlier and it worked. Sounds like you're doing great, just don't keep her up too late at night.

Thanks, I do not "keep" her up at all, she just sometimes is not ready to go down when I put her in her crib...she is sleeping now since 10pm Chat Icon

I didn't mean that you were intentionally keeping her up, sorry if you misunderstood that. Glad she's sleeping.

NopeChat Icon Definitely not! She'll eventually start to even out and get sleepy at an earlier time. It all evens out in the endChat Icon
