Update on the murder trial I served on
I was on a first degree murder trial back in 2005. I was not sure as to what the sentence was for the guy we convicted. I just did a search to satisfy my own curiousity.
He was sentenced to the following:
Second degree murder - minimum of 20 years, 11 months, maximum of 25 years, 11 months
Posession of a firearm by a felon - Minimum of 1 year, 8 months, maximum of 2 years
The trial was so emotionally draining and depressing. I am glad he got a decent sentence but I just feel bad for everyone invoved, included the prisoner's family. His parents were in court the whole time during the 5 week trial.
Projected realease date is in 2029...he will be in his 50's when released

I actually got teary during the "guilty" part of the trial. I mean the whole thing was an eye opener as to how some people live (crime, drugs, gang activity).....all of the "character" witnesses for the accused were inmates serving over 20 years for various crimes. They were all people in their 20's.....it was just so sad to see how they live, heartbreaking !!!!

Re: Update on the murder trial I served on
I was so obsessed with trial studies after college. I followed the Peterson case like a loon. Even though I knew he was guilty my heart aches for the way prisoners will spend the rest of their lives. I guess that makes me a wimp, but I think the whole penitentary system is sad and somewhat inhumane.
I would have cried too.

I feel the same way, as much as this guy deserved to be punished for taking a life, I feel bad for him....he was only about 23 when this murder happened back in 2001. 23 !!!! It was a sad, sad situation for everyone involved.......

I can't imagine being on a trial like that. THere are no winners in those cases - just pure tragedy all of the way around.

I know exactly what you mean. I was on a murder trial a few months ago and it completely takes over your life. I still think about the guy all the time and feel like I'm a lot more jumpy than i used to be.

I'm glad someone else has been through it. I never imagined it would affect me like it did
