Update to the kids left unattended at Tanger in Riverhead
The story
The captain finally called me about a week later to tell me that they used the recording of my call in a training session & that the dispatch Officer was totally out of line. He apologized profusely and thanked me for my call and for staying with the children.
I heard on news12 earlier this week that Riverhead Police Department wants Suffolk County Police to handle dispatch for them now
I'm glad they realize that they are doing a crappy job & maybe freeing up the officers that work dispatch will put them out on the streets answering calls like mine!

I just read your original story. That is messed up on so many levels. Good for you! You did the right thing. And you had the guts to stand up to them.

In Riverhead PD the dispatchers are Public Safety Dispatchers not Police Officers. Although it may change the peoplle on the other end of the phone, it will have no effect on the police response.

That is weird. The only other thing I can think of is maybe someone banged in sick that day or they had multiple calls going on at once, they might have pulled in the desk sargeant.
Either way....Im glad that you were able to help.
