UPDATE: We are starting Sleep Boot Camp tonight...
in other words CIO. Any words of wisdom??? I know there have been a lot of us trying this recently.
DD is 9 1/2 months. She goes down great, but gets up 1-2 times a night for a bottle, and comes into bed with us around 11:30. So plan is to have her stay in the crib all night and give her the bottle.
UPDATE: She woke up at 11, cried for 5 minutes and then went back down for only 20 minutes. She then cried until 12:45 when I finally went in and picked her up. She was so upset we gave her a bottle and tried to put her back down and she freaked when she saw the crib so we let her sleep with us again cuddling. She awoke at 5 for another bottle and sleep with us until 8:45.] We don't know if we will try this again or if it just won't work for her.

Re: We are starting Sleep Boot Camp tonight...
The only advice I have is not to give the bottle to her in bed !

Re: We are starting Sleep Boot Camp tonight...
She actually will not hold the bottle yet, so we have been having to get up and give it to her then wait till she is sound asleep and bring her back into bed with us. It has been awful!!

Re: We are starting Sleep Boot Camp tonight...
Try this..... My son is 16 months and he would wake up in the middle of the night for a bottle. I was getting no sleep so I put baby ceral in the last bottle he gets at night. he sleeps from 9 till about 5:30. Then I give him a bottle and he sleeps for another 2-3 hrs.
I just cant do the CIO thing yet. I rock him to sleep or he falls sleep in my bed and then I put him right into crib

Re: We are starting Sleep Boot Camp tonight...
I thought by 9 1/2 months they should be able to sleep through the night without a feeding?
Are you sure she is hungry, or just eatting cause you keep offering it?
As far as the CIO The 1st night is the hardest! It will get easier, I found making a routine works best. Not only does she sleep better and night, but she now goes down for naps easier too!

Yeah, she should be able to go without the feeding and has a couple of times. She isn't hungry but takes it to go back down out of comfort. We had planned to do this over thanksgiving break but she got a cold, and then over christmas break and she got a cold... so being that I have off on Monday we felt it was a good weekend in case it drags out.
She always has had a routine when going to bed and has always gone down very easily... it is just staying asleep. She wakes at 1030 I bink her, 11:30 she will come to bed with me, 2 I give her a bottle then 5 she takes a couple more ounces and will sleep till 730. I am dying for more than 2-3 hours in a row of uninterrupted sleep!!!

My advice........stick to your guns.
Ella is old enough where she doesn't need the feeding and frankly, you both need a good night's sleep.
The first night is always the hardest. Call me tonight if you need to chat - I'm home

I agree! I know it is hard, and it seems you have two habits to break, but I'd keep it up

They should, but some kids have their feeding schedule a little reversed, my DS did. We never were able to get him to sleep through the night without waking for a feeding, CIO only worked for us once he turned 1 and was on milk.

Re: UPDATE: We are starting Sleep Boot Camp tonight...
So how long do I let her cry before I say it is enough.... going in every couple of minutes makes it worse for her so we have to do extinction. I do have a monitor I watch her on.

Re: UPDATE: We are starting Sleep Boot Camp tonight...
It's going to sounds soooooooooo hatefully mean, but unless you see her making herself sick (vomiting), I would let her CIO.... She will learn to self soothe, and over the next couple of days, the amount of time that she cries will lessen with each passing day.

Re: UPDATE: We are starting Sleep Boot Camp tonight...
I couldn't go in with either of my kids - it made it worse.
Both kids were different - Jack had much more stamina than Ava. We're talking 45 min to over an hour......the first night was always the worst. It definitely is awful and heart wrenching but in the end I promise you it will be worth it.
Also, she may puke.....Ava did and then she realized that if she puked we wouldn't do CIO (smart little bugger). What we ended up doing was just cleaning it/her up and putting her right back in. 2 days later she went in her crib and passed out - not a peep.
Babies are a lot more intelligent than we give them credit for - I don't mean that in a bad way. I just can't believe that my kids at such a young age knew what "got" to us and how to work us.
Ella is a tough cookie but both she, Paul and you will get through it. It will be best for all of you to do it now vs. when he goes back to work and then BOTH of you are up with her.
I now its awful - I've done it with 2 kids and I'm still here!!!! Half of this board has done it and we're all for the most part happy with the results. They do "fall off the wagon" now and again and its ok and to be expected.
Try it - you have to try it to see if it works. Be strong sweetie - I know you guys can do it

Re: UPDATE: We are starting Sleep Boot Camp tonight...
Ok thanks so much for all the words of wisdom. We will try again tonight. I hope that it is easier. One more questions did me finally caving and getting her last night ruin everything and will tonight be "night 1" all over again?

Re: UPDATE: We are starting Sleep Boot Camp tonight...
It is very very hard. We did CIO several different times as DD's sleep got better, then worse, then better, etc. She could stay up crying & screaming for over two hours. But it only lasted a few nights each time. My advice is like the others: do not go in at all. Complete extinction as long as she's not throwing up or hurting herself. It is so painful for moms, but it works most of the time. Good luck!

Re: UPDATE: We are starting Sleep Boot Camp tonight...
Just keep with it! The first night DS cried for 75 minutes straight. DH and I were in bed fighting about whether we should go get him or not. But we held out, Second night 45 minutes, thrid night 20 minutes and that was it. We ony did it about 2 weeks ago because my wonderful sleeper was waking 2-3x a night but since then he sleeps through 98% of the time, some nights he will wake but I let him cry. He is so much happier when he wakes now and is sleepign so much better overall!
CIO was a huge success for us!
GL!
