UPDATE WITH PICS: HELP: fixing our hardwood floor
DH and I keep our computer chair right on our hardwood floor. After 3 years, we really need to fix the wood from the wheels scraping the finish off the wood.
I got clear polyeurathen (sp?) and it did wonders, but it's about a shade or two too light still.
Thoughts? HELP?!
***UPDATE: now that you see the pics, what do you think? Do I need to keep working on this, or is it okay to try to sell it as is? Image Attachment(s):

Re: HELP: fixing our hardwood floor
Well since you have already polyurethaned, I think the only way to go is to sand the entire floor surface down and re-stain, re-seal.
You can do this yourself by renting the sander from Home Depot or you could have it professionally done.
Hope this helps.

It's only a small area- maybe 3 feet by 3 feet. Do you think I can just do that area by hand, or do you think the whole entire floor would need to be done?

You really need to do the entire room to ensure that the finish is even and matches. When we got our floors redone, the original color (black in some places) compared to the after product (much lighter and more golden)... you would think we replaced the floors.
You can sand it yourself but you have to be very careful to move the machine at a steady, even pace to make sure the floor is sanded evenly.
Same with poly, has to be spread evenly and given adequate time to dry in between coats. After 2 coats it needs a very light sanding (screening) again to make sure the third coat adhere's properly.
HTH.

Re: HELP: fixing our hardwood floor
Oy. We live in a small condo- the "office area", living room and dining room are all open areas with the same floor.
I should have been more careful early on, darnit.
I think we'll just let it go. We want to put the condo on the market. The condition of the wood is still very good, it's just that whatever it was finished with prior to us moving in had a light tint and that's what we wore off. My poly was clear. So, although the wood is in great shape, you can see color difference in the circular area where the chair was.
I should have just taken a photo and posted.

Re: UPDATE WITH PICS: HELP: fixing our hardwood floor
I would put a throw rug down on the area.
If a potential purchaser really has a problem with it, offer some cash back at closing (get a couple of ball park estimates) so they can redo the floor.
ETA: Most houses sell with floors in a lot worse condition.

Re: UPDATE WITH PICS: HELP: fixing our hardwood floor
Would it make you think that the floors were bad?
I don't think I'm going to cover it up because I don't want ANY drama or problems when it's time to close...
I'm going to take another trip to the hardware store to see what the guy recommends for me...
