UPDATED AGAIN -MISSING DOG - SOUTH SHORE SUFFOLK
It's him! They found him!
He got all the way to Patchogue.. which has me because this dog is fairly lazy. He plays and sleeps in half hour intervals. That's a LOOOOONG walk.
They would not let me take him because he was found in Brookhaven and I am an Islip resident. So I have to bring in his papers and wait for him to get vaccinated tomorrow because his rabies vaccine expired exactly 1 week ago!! He had an appointment the week after next for vaccines and to be snipped. Image Attachment(s):

Re: MISSING DOG
Post a flyer at police and fire departments, also let sanitation workers know. Post flyers at supermarkets like Stop and Shop.
Go to Petfinder.com and post a classified lost ad..it is free. Also email [email protected] (Mayor's Alliance for NYC Animals, Inc.) and ask that they alert member organizations. Alliance members are in NYC, Nassau and Suffolk as well as other counties and several states. Groups in your area will see it..plus it gets circulated throughout the web.

Those are great ideas. I will ask my niece and sister to keep their eyes peeled too.

Re: MISSING DOG
A few more suggestions. Hand out flyers to UPS, Fed Ex, utility employees, anyone that works on the street for a living, especialy this time of the year when so many deliveries are made for the holidays, florists etc. These people are more apt to see your dog.
I am with a rescue organization, years ago we rescued a dog from one town and it escaped from us in another town as we were removing from vehicle. We post flyers with PD and about a month later received a call from PD, while doing a chase of a robbery suspect in backyards a police officer saw the dog in someone's backyard and recognized from our flyer and called us.

J - I'm for his safe return.
Maybe you should post your neighborhood in the subject line - may grab more attention.

Re: MISSING DOG
Thanks for the good thoughts. We have bulletins out on Myspace, in some supermarkets and on Petfinder. Some of my friends have also put things on Craig's List and Facebook.
He isn't used to cars... he's only been IN them. Our street is dead so he hasn't really seen too many cars whizzing by.
I am also worried because he is a gentle giant with our family - but he is an animal - I don't know how he will be with a stranger. I don't want him to hurt anyone.
I didn't want to put a 'town' in the subject because he has been gone a full day - they said he could be in Babylon or even Bellport at this point.
I'm REALLY hoping that he gets picked up by animal control. He would be so much safer at a shelter. I've left my name and number at the shelters - so with any luck he will be picked up soon!

Re: MISSING DOG - SOUTH SHORE SUFFOLK
You must be so stressed. Call the vet too, maybe if someone found him they called the vet on the rabies tag.
Call the Brookhaven Shelter as well: 300 Horseblock Road Brookhaven, NY 11719 (631) 286-4940
I think parts of BayPort/BluePoint fall under Brookhaven Shelter.
