Re: Barcelona!
We went to Barcelona about 2 years ago and it was just lots of fun! Stay away from restaurants on Las Ramblas, they are overpriced tourist traps. I would suggest that you get ticket for the open top bus tour and ride that all around the city, it stops everywhere and you get on and off. The food is great, the tapas are great, the sangria is great. Its such a great city! We had such a great time there! My friends band was playing there the weekend we went and we had a total rock star weekend.

Re: Barcelona!
I was in Barcelona in October with my MBA class and it was nice. It was a very laid back, relaxed city. We went to Parc Guell (it has all of the famous Gaudi architecture) I loved it, it was so unlike anything I had ever seen. For me the architecture alone was worth the trip, it was so different than what I had seen before. We also took a half day trip to the Montserrat Monestary. We took a cable car to get up there and the views were fantastic. Of course there was lots of sangria and tapas while we were there as well

Re: Barcelona!
Parc Montjuic -- amazing views of the city, beautiful gardens - and they just had a pitstop there on Amazing Race!
I love Las Ramblas to sit at a cafe and just watch the people go by. Lots of animals and plants for sale. The cathedral is very impressive, and a must must must is Sagrada Familia cathedral - it is still under construction but it is truly a work of art.
The Picasso Museum was wonderful, and the Parque Zoologico was very impressive too. Now there is a whole new waterfront area (I say new, but it's probably since the '92 Olympics!!) where there are lots of restaurants, bars and clubs. Don't miss the Gothic Quarter with it's narrow, rambling streets.
Diagonal and Paral-el are two main roads in the newer part of the city where you will find all the modern, hip shops.
I've been to some wonderful restaurants but can't remember the names. I will see if I can find them for you.
Have fun, it is a wonderful city...

Re: Barcelona!
I went in 1999 so I can't help much, but I LOVE Barcelona. Watch your belongings and watch out for common robbery tricks. There are a lot of pedllers and gypsies who will try to sell you something, shove it in your face with one and and with the other steal your wallet, so be careful. We almost got mugged on the metro there. Just keep your wits about you.
I don't remeber any of the restaraunts we ate at. Give yourself a day or tweo just to enjoy las ramblas.
Also, bring a skirt and long sleeves to wear to sagrada familia. We couldn't go in because we were in pants and t shirts.

Re: Barcelona!
sagrada familia - and all the gaudi buildings are gorgeous! (I can't think of the name - where columbus came back to Isabella)
picasso museum is amazing!
fat tire bike tour Do this the first day and you can really get a great idea of where you want to go back to and ask the guide for great recs!
for great tapas - if you go in the opposite direction of las ramblas just before El Cort Inglais (there is a fountain in the center of the intersection). Best tapas I have ever had!
enjoy!!!

Re: Barcelona!
Make sure that you visit Park Guell which was created by Gaudi. It's perched above the city and the views are spectacular! You can see a lot of his work right in the park.

Re: Barcelona!
We went this summer as part of our cruise (only there a day) but we did the hop on/hop off bus & saw so much. Definitely hit the Picasso museum. We found it the cleanest city we've seen in Europe, everywhere you look they are sweeping, cleaning. Have fun!

Re: Barcelona! - I am back with pictures!
I loved it threre..
the people are great- definitely a very clean city!
i feel like evrytime we walked down a narrow road, we would stumble upon a fascinating place by total accident
we stayed at the h10 universitat which is at the top of Ramblas. It was very nice and modern but next time we will stay in the El Born area where we loved.
we did
dali museum parc montejuic/military museum picasso museum sagrada familia barceloneta and hotel arts arc de triumph
check out my pics in my album

recommended restaurants:
7 puertes tragaluz taller de tapas bubo cheese me sagardis
We really enjoyed our short jaunt to Spain and will definitely be returning. We missed out on a few things but I am hoping to retunduring the summer to enjoy the Olympic area with the tons of bars and clubs and also the beach.
If anyone is planning a trip there pleaser feel free to fm me for an advice or suggestions. I passed by many many hotels so I can tell you how they looked from the outside and also location-wise.
Thnaks for all those that made suggestions on this thread!! Excellent advice!!
