updated. I ended up with the brown one
I saw this nice kooba bag (2007 style) but don't know if I should get it in the brown color or eggplant

i love the eggplant, but the shade of brown will go with everything!!! you'll definitely get more use out it...unless you buy clothes to go with the bag? i've done that before...maybe a winter coat to match?

I bought an eggplant Cole Haan bag last winter and got a ton of use out of it - I have already taken it out again for fall !!
It's just as versatile as black or brown and you don't have to 'match' your clothes to your bag !! -

I LOVE the eggplant color! You can definitely use it all winter. I am going to go to Century21 this afternoon to see if they have any cute eggplant bags.

I have a Kooba bag in that color brown and it is BEAUTIFUL! And it gets better looking with age

I have this bag (and I love it...great style...size...etc) and I have it in Lava (dark dark dark brown).
I had a bag in the Cuiuo color....I both are equally nice....but I'd probably go for the eggplant since that color is really in right now!

I personally have always loved purple so the fact that it's popular now is just  so I would definitely choose the eggplant. I actually don't have much brown in my wardrobe so that one wouldn't be as versatile for me!
