UPDATED: Just had my floors done is this normal?

UPDATE: Goldstar finally came out to see our floors and is going to fix it no chargeChat Icon I must say that is great customer service. Very happy with Goldstars response!!

We used Goldstar to get our floors done in mid-April. We moved in about a week after they were finished so we have been living there for about 2 months. We do have a Bulldog and a 7YO but our floors look horrible now...like really bad. They are so scratched everywhere. You can't even walk somewhere without them getting scratched. We have oak floors.

IDK in my old coop I had parquet floors and when we refinished them they didn't scratch so easy.

Is this normal? I'm debating if I should call Goldstar and ask them to come back. I wonder if its the product they used. I'm going to attempt to add some pics. What do you guys think?

Ours look like that lately and it's from our dogs nails. Especially if he runs around on the floors, he kind of digs into them and scratches them. We need to get his nails trimmed because its seriously destroying the floors.

Re: Just had my floors done is this normal?

How long are your dog'a nails? Some woods are softer than other woods. Old parkay floors were treated with urethane and a lot tougher than many plank style wood floors. I don't know what type of material the re finishers used, but did they know that you have a dog? Growing up with a dog, my parents knew the dogs nails were too long if he was able to scratch the floor. Edit, oak is a soft wood so the dog will easily scratch the floor. Do you have pads for the bottom of your chairs? Do you wear shoes on the floors?

Thanks everyone he just had his nails trimmed not too long ago guess it's time for him to go again. I did order another huge area rug that will cover most the living room ugh. So frustrating..

I guess I didn't realize that oak was such a soft wood. Chat Icon

I think oak is a softer wood and scratchers more easily. Some of my stairs are oak and the floor guy told me they will not look as nice.

Goldstar did our floors, they are abused by my kids and long nailed dog. Very few scratches. It must be the type of flooring

hmmm, I have oak floors, a bulldog (who HATES to have his nails clipped) and 2 young kids. we had our floors refinished about 5 years ago and they don't look as scratched as yours. are the scratches in the poly or down to the wood? we always have 3 coats of poly applied to be on the safe side.

Just had my floors done is this normal?

I had my oak floors redone 3 years ago. They do not look like that at all. I have a dog and a toddler.

What type of product did they use - water or oil? I think water will scratch easier but takes less time to dry. I would definitely call your refinisher because in 2 months time they should not look like that. A good refinish should last a few years. Did you have them completely refinished or screened?

In the meantime, make sure that at all the doors in/out you have some sort of walk off mat to catch sand and dirt as you enter the home and always wipe your feet. Use pads under any chairs that slide on the floor, replace every couple of months because they do wear down. Never drag anything across the floor.

Unfortunately wood is wood and can scratch. There is really nothing that can be done to prevent all scratching, but the steps above will help to reduce the scratching that does occur.

DH works in the flooring industry and these are all the things that we do in our home.

We used gold star and we were very happy. However I do have scratches already (my floors were done about 11 Months ago) but each scratch was my fault. Plus my floors are mahogany so everything shows.

Re: Just had my floors done is this normal?

Are sure the floors are oak? Oak is suppose to be very solid and not suppose to scratch easily. Maybe it's pine?

That looks like a ton of scratching to me for only 2 months. I would absolutely be calling. I have no idea when our floors were done as they were here when we moved in but we've been here for years and they're not that scratched. Granted our dog weighs 5 lbs but I still think that's a lot for such a short time period.

Re: Just had my floors done is this normal?

i know when we did our floors we were told to wait a week or 2 to put furniture on them, and to only walk we sock cover feet. I am wondering if you just didn't give them enough time to dry/cure.

scratches will happen but that seems like a lot quick!

Do you have stuff underneath your chairs to keep from scratching it too?

how many coats and what material did they apply?

Re: Just had my floors done is this normal?

I wanted to wish you good luck. But I think these are heartwood pine floors based on the wood grain and knots, which would explain why they scratch so easily. Link

Just had my floors done is this normal?

We have oak floors, used Gold Star floors and have a dog and this has not happened at all. The scratches we got were from us carelessly moving furniture.

I believe the company said oak. In any case Goldstar is going to come next week to take a look at them.
Thanks everyone I will update as to what they say. It would be a shame we spent all that money for the floors to look nice for 2 months. Chat Icon

Re: Just had my floors done is this normal?

I am glad that they are coming out to help you. I am curious what kind of wood floors they are. I would still get those felt things for furniture. Costco sells a set of 150 for like seven dollars.
