updated- parking ticket -snow covered fire hydrant

DH parked the car last night. He woke up this morning and discovered that he got a ticket for 100+ dollars bc he was parked by a snow covered fire hydrant , he didn't see it last night Chat Icon Chat Icon
He says in daylight it's visible , at night he didn't see it at all (obviously)
I told him to take a picture ...
I wonder if we can fight it or have it reduced or something Chat Icon
does anyone know?

DH tried to fight it online (you can do in person, online or mail ) , even sent them a picture and they just got back to us saying we have to pay the whole thing....

you can definitely fight it but - where was it written and by what authority (police, parking enforcement, mta, etc.)?
it may make a difference in terms of whether it's worth fighting.

sometimes if you just show up to contest, even if they don't throw it out they will lower it

Re: parking ticket -snow covered fire hydrant

Totally fight it. A few years back when I used to take the train to work I accidentally parked in a handicapped spot at the train station. I got back to my car and saw the ticket and I was so confused because I would NEVER do that. I looked around the spot and saw no sign indicating it was a handicapped spot. I looked closer at the ground and realized the very thin layer of snow was covering the blue lines. I fought the $130 ticket, explained the situation, and I only had to pay $30.

i went through this exact exact same thing a few years ago in the city. i fought it, twice i believe, tried to appeal, and the best i got was them saying that i "need to be aware of local traffic regulations" or some bs. like we should all memorize where every single hydrant is!

Seems like someone else should have gotten the ticket for NOT clearing the hydrant. I would definitely appeal, but it doesn't sound like you will have much luck.

I parked in a handicapped space yesterday, but you could not see the blue lines anymore, or the sign in front (covered with snow). When I went to my car, I was about to get a BIG ticket, but I explained what happened, and luckily, the officer dropped it. I never do this either, but I was not familiar with the lot and where the handicapped spots are located.

Sorry that happened. But I don't think he will be able to get out of it. They're pretty strict with the hydrant tickets...even if it he didn't see it.

Doesn't hurt to try though.
