Updated with pics: New coffee table
We need a new one because we got our new couches (Yeah!) but the old coffee table is too big.
My question is this..... wood or glass top?
Wood scratches easily, dents easily too, and gets water stains from the glass that just gets left behind.
Glass scratches, and finger prints galor get left behind!
So whatcha think?

Re: New coffee table
I'd never do glass, especially if you want kids. I'm just paranoid like that.
I think if you're careful with wood I don't think it scratches too easily. And I realized that I officially became an adult when I started insisting that we use coasters all the time.

Re: New coffee table
I have had both, glass is to hard to keep clean always, wood great but must use the coasters. And I personally like wood better.

Re: New coffee table
My sister has awesome wood coffee tables that look kinda "rustic" so scratches don't look bad. I am going to get soething like that when we replace our furniture!

Re: New coffee table
I would definitely recommend getting wood. The glass coffee table can be a PITA to clean.

My vote is for wood. Just provide coasters etc to protect it.

Re: New coffee table
I have a glass one for years and love it. I probably will replace it once I get new couches but I love it and have had it for over 10 years.

Re: New coffee table
We have a glass top which is tempered glass so it wouldn't scratch. I HATE cleaning it, but I love the way it looks.

Re: New coffee table
I'm a fan of wood tables, fingerprints on glass would drive me more crazy than a cup mark would. And like everyone else said, coasters!

Re: New coffee table
We have this ottoman from Pottery Barn. We put wood trays on top of it when we need to set things down on it. We also use it as extra seating if needed :) Image Attachment(s):

Re: New coffee table
Wood
I hate glass for the most part
Unless the glass is set in the wood on the top...
I like that idea because it stops marks that are left by glasses left on the wood

Re: New coffee table
I love the ottoman style tables but I just know we'd end up with marks from putting our feet up all the time plus I need a hard surface to write on sometimes.
We have a glass top table that I really like. When we eat in the LR we use a place mat and always use coasters for drinks so I haven't found it necessary to go crazy cleaning it all the time. I like hours because it has wrought iron cross bars between two pieces of glass that really adds some character.

Re: New coffee table
I have all glass in my house..coffee tables, end tables, dining room table. I'm constantly cleaning! Plus now every table has an elastic cushion around it so Jared doesn't crack his head open. I don't like wood at all though. I'd rather go with a cusiony ottoman like the pics posted above.

Re: New coffee table
How about a wood table with a sheet of tempered glass on top? I think you can get the glass cut to the size and shape of the table.

Re: New coffee table
I had glass once...I personally HATED it. I love the element of wood over glass. Wood is more traditional...glass IMO is more contemporary.

Re: New coffee table
I have had both wood & glass & I prefer wood. I actually now have a convertible ottoman bench. I love it but the leather is a bI*#% to keep clean.
