Updated2-Where can I get a car seat installed for me?

I'm normally so good with hooking things up & installing them, but I can't figure out this stinkin car seat!!! It's the Graco Nautilus. There's just too much going on & I would rather just have someone else install it for me. Does BRU or BBB do anything like this? Thanks! DS is really getting too big for his infant seat.

Update: Thanks everyone! I'm going to be getting him a convertible car seat tonight or tomorrow morning. I'll keep the Nautilus for use when he's older. Thanks so much for the info ladies! Chat Icon

Update 2: Ok, I'm actually going to see if I can exchange the Nautilus for a convertible. What would I do without you ladies? Chat Icon

Re: Where can I get a car seat installed for me?

Neither BRU or BBB have CPSTs that will install for you.

Nassau County Traffic Safety's Car Seat Check is on Saturday, Sep 24 from 10am-2pm For an appointment call: 516-571-9664 and ask for Chris. Walk ins are also accepted.

You can also make an appointment for other times if that isn't convenient for you.

Just as an FYI though, the Nautilus is a forward facing only seat, it is recommended to rear face until 2 years of age. I think your DS is around my DD2's age, about 11 months? If so, then you will need to get a convertible seat such as the Graco MyRide, Britax Marathon etc. The nautilus is confusing since it's called a 3 in 1 seat but that is because it converts from a harnessed FF seat to a high back booster to a low back booster.

Dawn, I agree, your DS is too young for the Nautilus, not sure if you got it because you watch an older child maybe? For your DS, you want a convertible carseat. Chat Icon

Re: Where can I get a car seat installed for me?

Yeah, I just tried sitting him in it just to see how he would fit. It's on our living room floor. While he does meet the height/weight requirements, he just looked so lost in it. Ok, so now what do I do? His feet are so over the edge of his infant seat that he pushes off the back seat & almost knocks the whole thing off the base. Chat Icon He's a big boy for 11 months old. And his infant carrier only goes to 22 lbs. HE IS 22 lbs now!!!! I'm feeing so stuck. What to do?Chat Icon

Re: Where can I get a car seat installed for me?

Do you have the receipt to return the Nautilus?

If he is AT the weight limit of the infant seat, you need to stop using it ASAP and get him into a convertible seat like a MyRide, Marathon, True Fit, Triumph 65 etc.

Don't worry about the feet, they're fine over the edge, they'll bend them up a little bit, and eventually sit criss cross or hang them over the sides etc. It's hard but their comfort is different than our comfort. They're like little contortionists compared to adults. No child has ever suffered a broken leg from a RF seat. It's a misconception, but there isn't one documented case. Broken legs are actually a common injury in forward facing children though.

Take the Nautilus back and exchange it for a convertible carseat. If you want to stay with Britax, they have the Marathon and the Boulevard carseats (also the roundabout, and the advocate). Another good one is the Graco My Ride 65 which is a lot less expensive than Britax.

Even though he meets the height and weight requirements for the Nautilus, he doesn't meet the age requirement. Chat Icon

I actually have had it since I was pregnant with him. I registered for that car seat & the one he's in now. I figured I would have it on hand for when he was older, but in the meantime, I don't know what to put him in. See my above post. Chat Icon

Yep, I agree with the others. I would return the Nautilius and get another convertible seat. We have the Britax Marathon and the Britax Roundabout 50. Love them both.

Is it BRU?

If so, and it's on your registry, they *may* take it back, no guarantees though.

Do you have the box still?

You are awesome!!!! Thank you so much!!!!!! I'll probably keep the Nautilus just in case we'll need it for when he's older, but I will definitely be getting one of those you mentioned. You have no idea how much I appreciate the recommendations. I have been feeling so out of it lately (14 weeks pregnant right now) and I just couldn't make my mind up on what to do about his car seat. Oh ok, sorry about that. The Nautilus is a great seat, but unfortunately he has to wait a while to use it.

We have the Britax Boulevard and love it. DS is super comfortable in it. We also have the MUCHHH cheaper Cosco Scenera which was only $40 at Walmart. We use that one to travel and as an emergency backup in case one of us is using the car with the Britax. Doesn't have much cushioning, but it's a very good seat.

If you want to stay more middle of the road, the Graco My Ride 65 seems to get a lot of buzz for being a good seat.

I would definitely go out and get a convertible seat asap since he's reached the weight limit on his current one.

Thanks. I'm going to be getting a convertible. I have no problem with him rear facing. I didn't think he was uncom fortable, I was afraid of him pushing the whole carseat off the back seat. We keep tightening it, but this kid is a power house & pushes so hard off the back seat. I'm going to have the convertible seat installed by the people listed above. Thanks again!Chat Icon

Re: Where can I get a car seat installed for me?

I'd be hesitant to keep the Nautilus since you won't be using it for probably another 2-3 years, and by then half of the usable life span of it is gone (and already 1 year is knocked off as it stands). Car seats expiration dates are based on date of manufacture. If you can't return it, maybe you can sell it here on LIF or on craigslist.

Actually I didn't think about this, but Dawn this is a good point! If you've already had it for a year, you're losing valuable time to be able to use it in the future. You could sell it on here and use that $ towards whatever you spend on the new seat!
