Re: Does anyone have any experience with children having seizures? Not Febrile seizure- brought on by fever
Sorry, haven't had a minute.
My 5 year old niece woke from a nap and vomited, her eyes were going to one side and she wasn't able to stand.
She was rushed to hospital in respiratory failure. She also had hypothermia- temp was 95 degrees. She was on life support for 3 days.
Thankfully she is stable and is now at home. All tests came back normal except EEG. It shows that seizures happensed and are still happening in back, left part of brain. It also showed that the brain waves were "slow", but most likely to to all medications she was in in hospital.
She is on Tegretol every 12 hours and follows up at Ped Neuro in 2 weeks for follow up EEG.
Does this sound like Epilepsy? What Ped Neuro do you use? Anyone have a similar situation?

First. Many hugs and prayers and thank god she is ok
For my daughter. She will acting 100 percent fine then out of nowhere her head and neck go to the side. We now know this is a tell take sign
She gets very lethargic and has no balance. She is drifting toward one side. Then within minutes. Her eyes roll back (lasts about 30 second) she vomits. And then sleeps for a few hours. Wakes up and is totally ok
She has had 7 episodes in total. All her tests are perfect 'MRI cat scans and even the 48 hr EEG in the hospital
She is going to have repeat MRI in sept and discuss medS I opted not to out her on them now
We see Dr.Sy-kho out of cohens and we are very happy with her
Best of luck!

we see Dr. Laureta from Cohen's children as really like her too. Honestly, I had great experiences with Cohen's all around.
That scenerio is nothing like what my daugther experiences. Usually its just the seizure and passing out. She gets hers all in her sleep. She has never vomited or had the low temp. We were told that a sudden decrease of temp could also bring on a seziure (and febile seizures). Febiles are a sudden change in temp. Its most commonly known for the spike of the fever but could also be the sudden drop too. In my opinion based on everything I went thru with my dd - I would think the issue here would be more about what caused her to suddenly go into hypothermia and temp to drop so low and that may have caused the seizure. But it is strange that the eeg was still picking up seizure activity. THey will not diagonse epilepsy unless or until it is a few unknown causes of seizures.
I hope she is feeling better and they get some answers. what a scary thing to go through!
