UPDATE...Has anyone had problems with the Summer handheld monitor?
I just got off the phone with Summer. They have a year warranty so they're emailing me a shipping label for me to send it back and i'll recieve a brand new one. I'll be without it for a week but happy to be getting a new one.
I bought one in Jan and it doesn't work anymore. I'm not sure if it was normal or not but when it was plugged in it always got really hot...like to hot to hold hot and the past 2 weeks the sound hasn't been working properly. I would have to have it on a very loud setting to hear anything and to take away the static. Even then it would cut in and out. On sunday after Rylan woke up I went to turn the dial to turn it off and it just spins around...won't turn off. Now after being on since sunday I can't get any picture or sound out of it...it's fried.
I called BBB on Sunday and they told me to call the manufacturer. Of course I forgot to call today because I was babysitting all day. I'm going to call tomorrow to see what they say. I still have the box and receipt so I hope they replace it. I've only had it for 8 months which is unacceptable for a $200 monitor so I really hope they stand behind their product.
Has anyone had a problem and received a new one?

Re: Has anyone had problems with the Summer handheld monitor?
I had heard they are pretty good about replacing them.
Despite all the raves, I hated mine and returned it after a few weeks and never replaced it.

Re: Has anyone had problems with the Summer handheld monitor?
Mine got super hot the first night we used it. DH woke up and freaked when he felt it telling me it was gonna end up setting the bed on fire.
It hasn't happened again, but the battery only lasts about 10 minutes when it's not plugged in. I'm really not too thrilled with it.

I really like the monitor - very convenient and I do like the picture - however, I agree with you - it does get VERY hot and I feel like I am always charging it!

See and I absolutely love it...I don't know how I survived the first 10 months without it. Then again Rylan slept with us the first year...lol..

I have mine plugged in most of time so it's always hot. I thought there was something wrong with mine but I guess it's normal.

Re: Has anyone had problems with the Summer handheld monitor?
I really like mine and still do. That said, my first one had the hot issue too - and, at one point it got so hot it actually melted I called them up and they insisted it must have been tangled in something like blankets or something for that to happen - I assured them that wasn't the case but I don't think they believed me. That said they did agree to replace mine even though it wasn't broken - just melted a little. Well, then they sent me not a new one but a refurbished one that was wayyyyy older than mine - I was and called them to complain. They sent me another one that looked new but was an older model and so far that one is working fine. I also had to send back the damaged one and the other they sent me. So, definitely call them!

Mine melted too!! On the sides around the screen...that's why I thought there was something wrong.

I'm going to call tomorrow.
I must confess...I just realized I had it on the wrong channel which is why I have no picture
The dial is still broken though and I can't turn it off.

Re: Has anyone had problems with the Summer handheld monitor?
Dawn!!!!!!!!!!!!
Call the company and let them know you want it overnight!!!!!!!!!!!!!! If you don't say it in the beginning, they will have you send it back to them and then they will ship a new one. That process takes two weeks!!!!!
WHen I called them about my monitor I didn't know this piece of info. SO I had to deal with the 2 week blah, blah, blah. I called them back the next day and said 'Hey, other girls said they got their new monitors shipped overnight' Their response was 'Well, you didn't ask." I said "I am asking you now, less than 24 hours from the original request." They said they couldn't change the request and that I should've asked for overnight shipping in the first place. I hadn't even sent the monitor back to them yet!!!!!!! It was just a quick change in the computer, but they refused.
SO ask for it!!!!!!!!!

Wasn't true for me. They asked fo rthe model number and sicne it was manufactured less than 1 yr ago-they said they would send me another one. I didn't do it because I needed my monitor.
