update!!mammogram.... bumping for the nite crowd...

I had one this morning. In all honesty, it wasn't bad at all. If you are in your thirty's and haven't had one... get it done ASAP!!!

Had another one this morning. I am urging those who have not had one to go and get one done. If you don't have insurance, there are free mammography clinics that you can go to. No excuses.
Get one!!!!

If your doctor recommends it you should get it done. You should start at 35 without history. If not, there are free mobile mammogram companies that come around and do it. You may be able to google it.

A friend of mine who has breast cancer in her family said that many times mammos don't pick up cancer on people under 30 and so they rarely do them before 35. How scary is that? They need better detection for younger people! Chat Icon I hope everything went well today with yours! Chat Icon

Re: mammogram....

I had mine and it was not bad at all. I am in my 30s and my insurance covered all but the co-pay that I usually pay for a doctor's visit.

ETA: Even if they don't pick anything up before you are 40, it is good to get a baseline, so they compare your later ones to a healthy one.

I had to have one done at 22 - the whole idea of it scared me, but it really wasn't awful at all!

Re: mammogram....

cool,. then im not the only person who doesnt mind a mammogram. my mom was diagnosed at age 42 and passed away at age 47. so my insurance finds me a high risk and covers my mammograms, i had my first one at age 29. i didnt find it hurt at all. and i am glad i did it. i will now go yearly.

Re: mammogram....

I had an abnormailty last year and it turned out to be fine, but now I am considered high risk. I just went for a follow up sonogram and in October I go for an MRI. Every 6 months I get some sort of test.

Nerve racking, but heck..I am lucky to have this kind of care. Some women either by choice or by circumstances don't get it yearly or even have an exam by their docs.

This is beyond important. The #1 reason women die from breast cancer is because it wasn't caught early enough. The survival rate goes sky high when detected early.

Sadly, even with regular screening some women don't make it. Chat Icon

Michele, I am glad you got that out of the Way!

Good Girl!

Girls, you may want to check with your insurance b/c I heard that some of them have lowered the age range.

Re: mammogram.... bumping for the nite crowd...

I used to work in a radiology office when I was in college and saw some scary things (i.e. women who were told to come back in 3 months for a follow up and didn't come back for years and wound up having breast cancer so bad they lost their breast) I stronly urge every woman to stay up on this even though it is easy to push off!
