UPDATE...my follow up appt after MC

im so sorry to post on here.. but i felt like i have been talking to you ladies a lot and you all helped me a great deal! so i wanted to turn to you all Chat Icon

ok... i need your opinion on what to do here and advice is greatly appreciated!!
Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

the doctor is having me get a Sonogram to check my cervix Pre-Pregnancy.. to see if its naturally weakened or anything else could be wrong.. ( i go next week)

He also said that he didnt know what happened ( of course) and what he will do next time is monitor me closely every 2 weeks when i get PG again... also give me P17 Progesterone shots ( hormones that prevents you from havng contractions)

NOW, i am happy he at least is taking this somewhat seriously , and i did mention to him that my sister also had a MC at 16 Weeks . i told him that she had the stiches put in the next time she was PG even though they could not rule out she had Incompetent Cervix. BUT it was a precaution and ended up she DID need it..

NOW, my question is... i didnt push him this visit because i knew next week i would be talking to him again.. should i push him into getting the stitches at 12 Weeks? ( he didnt rule it out BTW) OR have him just check me out every 2 weeks and hope for the best and hope the shots work?

and keep in mind that i DID go see him the DAY i had my MC and everything was fine.. SO why didnt he notice anything was wrong then?? and what is going to make him see anythign wrong this time?? that is what is worrying me the most. he didnt catch it before.

ughhh.. i am so upset, this feels like its never going away.. i feel so much pain.

only highlight is i can start TTC again after my first period.. which hopefully will come soon Chat Icon

sorry for the long post,, it really helps me though to decide what to do, and get opinions.. i thank you all!!!

Love,
Deanna Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

I would as well to be honest. I would go see a doctor that will watch you like a hawk and you won't have to ASK for anything, he/she will tell you what needs to be done. That is there job, not yours!Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Like you said, you saw him the day of the MC and he didn't detect anything. I think you should get a second opinion.

Should he have been able to detect something if it was an imcompetent cervix?

Re: UPDATE...my follow up appt after MC

Dee, I would switch doctors if your confidence in this doc is compromised, which it sounds like it is. I would go with a doc that is highly recommended on this board and talk to him/her about all of your fears, what happened to your sister, possibly getting stitched at 12 weeks and how the other doc did not see anything happening the day you had the m/c.

I am sorry that you are struggling with this, and that you didn't get any more answers at your check up appt. Sending you all of the prayers, hugs and baby dust in the world!! I'm so glad you only have to wait until after your 1st AF to start trying again!!

when she went to see him, she was spotting. that makes me think he SHOULD have seen something or sent her for further testing/sono. that's not to say that this could have been prevented - no one knows that. but i agree with the PP - i would switch doctors. i personally would need someone who would take charge and be more proactive this time around. I would switch doctors. Chat Icon I wouldn't want that feeling of having to question every thing he says/does now or when you get pregnant.

I too would find a new doctor. I sense that you are not 100% comfortable with him and that is super important. Shop around if you have to to find someone that will be super diligent and proactive about your care.

Deanna, I agree with the above opinions to switch doctors.Chat Icon

It is also important that you feel "comfortable" with a physican and I am getting the feeling you are not given the circumstances. Very understandle, after all you have been through. Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: UPDATE...my follow up appt after MC

Deanna,

I am glad that you are able to start after your 1st AF, that is good news, I know that was weighing on you.

As for the doctor, I am with most of the other girls, I would switch doctors. It would bother me to no end that I had seen that doctor the day of my MC, and he didn't do an examination to check your cervix.

I wish you all the best!!!!!!!Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

i agree with this!! i don't think anyone here is saying switch right away. if YOU are more comfortable with getting a second opinion before making your decision, then that is what you should do. you, your DH and the health of all your future babies is all that matters here!!! I would absolutely look into another dr. Maybe even one that specializes in high risk, so that you know they will look for every little thing. Good luck Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: UPDATE...my follow up appt after MC

does your sister live near by? What about using her Dr? She has had good experiences every since her horrible MC.....

I wonder if there are high-risk OB's who deal with this situation frequently... maybe a Dr. that is accustomed to high risk situations would be more alert?

I would switch doctors.

I switched doctors immediately, after the way I was treated by my prior OB after having an early m/c last year.

When I got pregnant again, I ended up having major complications at 28 weeks and am SO glad I had switched doctors to someone who was aggressive, honest and totally on top of my care.

Re: UPDATE...my follow up appt after MC

maybe u should see a high risk dr, an RE. They literally watch u like a hawk (i go there every week , if not 2 times a week.) constatly checking levels. if i waited to see my regular ob/gyn at 8 weeks i would have never known that my progesterone was low and needed to take action to increase levels.
regular ob/gyns seem to be more laid lack! good luck.....

Re: UPDATE...my follow up appt after MC

So sorry you had to go through that and are frustrated now with your MD. Did they check your cervical length at all during your pregnancy? Mine was checked at the 12wk ultrascreen and quite honestly, I thought it was a routine thing to check. I would def switch doctors - you should have no questions your next question (at least not with your MD).

The day you went in for spotting, did they check your cervix as well? Or did they just check the baby and the HB? I am not sure if that info has been mentioned yet or not.

Is this the same dr. your sister went to?

First and foremosty I am so sorry for your loss. I can't even begin to imagine the pain you muct be going through. I hope it brings you some comforet that I am hoping things will be better for you next time. If I was in your situation I would tell the Dr. everything you just told us and if you're unsatisfied with his answers I would switch doctors. Good luck and I hope you get PG again soon!!!!!!!!

First I think you need to get the idea that you "can't" do something or you don't have a say in your medical care rigtht OUT OF YOUR HEAD. YOU and only you are your own and your baby's advocate and the sooner you realize that the better your experience will be. If you want the cerclage-research it, read stories of other women, get advice and insist on it. If you don't feel you can do that have your husband do it. Best of luck to you. I am so sorry you had to go through this and if i was you I would definitely switch Dr'sChat Icon
