*UPDATE*New to this board..bad news
I am new to this board. We have been ttc for 10 months and we went to see an RE. We are going to RSofNY and seeing Dr. Cain.
I did testing and everything came back great. My DH did a semen analysis and it came back bad. His count was 1 million and they said it should be 20 million.
He is overweight and we are changing both of our diets. I read this could be a contributing factor to this.
I am just so upset and I told him months ago to get checked so we know everything is ok. He didn't listen to me and now 10 months later here we are.
The Dr. said we could try an IUI but there may not be enough sperm they can wash. Luckily my insurance covers has many IUI's has we need to do.
Has anyone experienced this before?
****UPDATE****
It turns out that the medicine my DH is taking for his underactive thyroid is not working. My RE believes that could be the major reason why his count was so low. She gave him a higher dosage and believes that will help him big time. Between him losing weight and taking more medicine she is very optimistic that the IUI we are doing in about a week will have a better chance.
This was such a relief because it can be fixed and we are working on it.
Good news is I had a sonogram to check my ovaries and everything with me is ok. She still gave me Clomid to give us a better shot with the IUI.
I am still nervuos and just hope this works.

Re: New to this board..bad news
That wasn't our problem, but i know of many men who have improved their sperm count greatly with diet and supplements. There is HOPE, lots of it! I would ask your doctor for a list of things he can do to up his count. Also, i would google it and do a search on here for more tips. If it does come to having an IUI, it iss really a snap. I have had 4 IUI's, and they are less painful then a pap. Wish you the best !!!

Re: New to this board..bad news
im soo sorry you are going through this. try not to be upset with DH - im sure he is upset enough on his own.. i was so upset when i found out that i had PCOS and that was preventing us from conceiving. if DH had been upset with me for waiting to get it checked out (even though i only waited 6 months post BCP), it would have made me feel that much worse.
as the PP said there are def things he can do to improve his count. give him a big and help him, it will benefit the both of you with a BFP in the future.
good luck!

TY for the advice. I know I shouldn't be upset with him but I am . He has no clue though that I am upset. I just went for so many tests months ago to make sure I was ok and he said he would and I even found him names of doctors. He just never made the appointment and that is what is making me upset.
Thank you again.

Re: New to this board..bad news
I think men have a very hard time with "sperm" issues. They all want to think they have super sperm and the idea of finding out they don't are a hit to there ego. Now that you know what the issues are, there are supplements and diet changes that can boost his numbers. If he is a smoker or even drinks occasionally, try to make him quit, or at least cut back. My Dr. said that smoking and drinking were very bad for sperm.

to you!

i kinda of understand. i TTC'd for a year and underwent three medicated/injectable cycles. im pretty sure this past cycle was the first one that DH was wholeheartedly into TTCing, although he told me a year ago he was ready.. guys are weird and slow and big babies that just dont get it. but we still love them !! good luck!!

Re: New to this board..bad news
Sorry you are dealing with this I am also dealing with male factor IF and its very hard, even more so b/c its not your own body. My DH hesitated to get tested even though we had a reason to believe he had a problem and when he finally tested - he had NO SPERM. I too was mad that he waited but I realized no point in dwelling on - just to move foward.
Did they recommend your DH go to a urologist? I would highly advise that since a urologist can determine the cause - possibly a vericole and most likely the cause can be treated. The good thing about male IF is that most cases can be treated or reversed - just have to figure out what the problem is.
FM me if you would like the urologist info.
good luck

It turns out that the medicine my DH is taking for his underactive thyroid is not working. My RE believes that could be the major reason why his count was so low. Glad that you made some progress with your Dr. Hopefully this new dosage change will do the trick.
Just wanted to say to try and not get discouraged if the numbers aren't great for your upcoming IUI, as (I'm sure your RE told you) it takes 3 months for the sperm your DH makes now to make it through his system. Hopefully over the next few months you will see a marked improvement!!
We are also dealing with low numbers, FM me if you have any questions!
