Utilities cost?
Hi all,
DH and I are starting to look for a house and I'm trying to figure out how much we can pay p/month for a mortgage.
Could you ladies give me an idea of what utilities would cost in Nassau County (specifically we're looking in Lynbrook, Malverne, Bellmore, Merrick, East Meadow, and maybe Franklin Square).
FYI,, I know it'll be different for everyone but it's just to get an idea for a 3br 2 bath.
TIA!

Re: Utilities cost?
I don't think the neighborhood matters so much, it's the size of your house and the amount you use. Things like whether you have gas heat and appliances are also a factor. We pay $131/month for LIPA and $113 month for Grid. Balanced billing. We live in a cape, approx 1700 sq. ft. Gas heat and appliances, and I don't think we ever put our heat above 69 the entire winter.
ETA our house is 4br 2 bath but 2br are upstairs, which we haven't used unless we had company. Since we only have 1 zone heating, the upstairs was VERY cold during the winter - barely ever went up there!

My cost is about the same as this and I also have 2 zones for heat one of which we dont turn on above 55 because we dont use the space and it gets too hot!
