UV Gel french manicure?
Has anyone done this? I find that my manicures always chip after a day or two, which makes me fed up that I wasted $$. People at work have these semi-permanent UV gel french manicures that always look glossy and perfect. They say they last 3 weeks and it's $35 every 3 weeks to get them redone.
Does anyone have experience with this? Also, I'm a nerd and want to look into the safety of these... I've never had 'fake' nails before, but they say these are your 'real' nails.... but are they 100% safe, even if my fingers wind up in my mouth? lol
When you decide you're done with them, does it hurt to get them taken off? Are your nails all ugly and ruined for a month afterward?
Sorry, I'm a nail salon virgin really.... lol

Re: UV Gel french manicure?
well i dont consider them real nails, they alternate layers of powder and glue and then a special top coat that hardens under the UV light.
i think they are totally safe, they can last 3 weeks to a month CHIP FREE depending on how fast your nails grow ( since you will still have that gap at the base )
they hurt to take off even after you soak them, and they do dent my nails but nowhere near as bad as acrylic nails do

Thanks!
And is it the opi product that you use or something else?
How long does the denting/weak nails last after you take them off? I'm afraid, but I feel like I don't have a lot to lose?? they won't be gross for weeks, right?

Re: UV Gel french manicure?
I have them right now since i wanted them for my wedding
to be honest it was a nightmare just to find someone who does a decent job - if they don't do it just right the peel up, crack and split very easily. I finally found a guy at a nail salon in hampton bays who does a GREAT job
don't think I'll keep them up though - costs me $45 and in my opinion they don't last 3 weeks - 2 weeks at best, but my nails grow rather quickly so I could see how some could go 3 weeks...
ETA - mine don't use glue and powder like the above person said - they use a liquid gel formula that comes in a round container and they paint it on sort of and mold it then file it and smooth it out...

Re: UV Gel french manicure?
I had them for my wedding. They were beautiful but they ruin your natural nails. Honestly I would never do any nail treatment at a salon other than a regular manicure. All the other types of nails they do have to be kept up, and if you decide to take them off, your nails will be paper thin and it will take a while for them to grow back stronger.

I agree word for word. My places charges $43 for the french and $40 for the color. I think I could get away every 3 weeks if I remember to put gloves on all the time when I am washing dishes. I had them done in the past they would separate and crack. I found a new place and have been doing it for 2 months now and they haven't cracked once.

I agree too! the place I went to also used the liquid gel stuff (not the opi) I had to have them done every 2 weeks because my nails grow fast. when I waited into the 3rd week I found they chipped and they were yellowing even when they claimed to not yellow. I have since stopped getting them done, probably since the summer, and I still have dents in my nails, I think it did permant damage
