Vacation and thermostat temperature question
When you leave for vacation, what do you set your thermostat to? I'll be gone for a week during the wintertime and not sure what the optimal temp is... I have 2 cats in the house as well
TIA!

Re: Vacation and thermostat temperature question
Hmmm I think it could depend on what they are used to and what the weather is going to be. My cats prefer the cold, so we would probably set it around 60 or so. If it was supposed to be mild while we were gone, I wouldn't set it at all. My Dad takes care of them when we are away though, so he could just come over and adjust it if there were any problems.

Evey night, we drop it down to 62 and when we're home its at 68... One cat is always snuggled up under our covers and the other I have no idea bc he's a night owl Im sure they can always find a place to stay warm so its not a HUGE concern of mine... We'll be having my SIL come over a few times during the week to check on the cats/feed/change litter etc so Im sure she can adjust it too... I was thinking about 60... maybe even 55 or is that too low?

55-this is what the house is at when we're at work. When we are home, it is at 62. Sleeping, 60.
I'd keep it at 55 when you're away, just so you're not wasting oil, and the pipes don't freeze.

WOW... And here everyone who comes in my house complains about the 68 temp being too cool! I applaude you for being able to stand 62! Do you have any children? I have one of the way and I'm afraid of having the raise the temp (and our electric bill )

I have 2 children, and if it is any hotter than set at 60 at night, we all sweat. I keep a sleepsack on DD (1) and her room is the warmest. DS sleeps with a down comforter, so he's good.
It might be cold when we go to bed, but as we're sleeping under the comforter we are warm enough. Actually, this morning I had to take my blanket off bc it was warm.
I've never raised my heat over 64 degrees in the winter, I just put a sweater or blanket on if I'm cold.
