Vacation to cape cod with multiple families with kids-ETA: house booked..now what to do?!?!
Looking to possibly doing a week vacation in Cape Cod with friends and all our families..
We are looking into renting a house. Probably makes most sense..
None of us have ever been...don't know the area at all..
There are probably 4-5 families all with kiddies 5 yrs and under.
Any suggestion on where to stay, what to do, where to eat, activities that are must do?
Thanks.

I would look on cyberrentals.com, vrbo.com and homeaway.com
they all have house rentals.
I have used them for ski houses in vermont and beach rentals down in NC.
I would just start looking at houses and then research the towns.

I can highly recommend Oceans Edge in Brewster. There is a variety of different accomodations - hotel rooms, condos and privately-owned cottages that you can rent. The condos are owned by the Hotel and are pretty but they are on the beach. The cottages can be rented through Leighton Realty Rentals.

This is where my family and I stayed for many years. I know people who go and stay there now and really enjoy it. There are several pools, an indoor pool, lots of trails to walk or run or bike on. It is on a golf course so nice views. Very family friendly. They have all different type of places to rent from 1 bedroom condos - to small townhouses (we used to do those - they had a large open living room, full kitchen, washer and dryer, bathroom and master bedroom on the 1st floor. Then a loft above with 2 beds and a pull out couch and full bathroom on the 2nd floor.
etd to add there is the area on one side of the street with the main building on the beach - but there are a ton of places that are part of it across the street as well.

That's right! I forgot about that side of the road. We stayed right on the beach but the other side has a golf course, lots of pools, rec areas, etc. It is a fantastic location for families. We were there 4th of July week and they did firewords, bonfires on the beach at night with smores for the kids and many other activities. A really fun vacation.

I live on the Cape year round. Many people with summer rentals either list on Craigslist or Capecodrentals.com Check out Beachrealtycapecod.com also.

My sister lives up there too. You can FM her at Nancy6485. Love it up there. I really can't recommend, because, we usually stay at her house or at the Quality Inn right over the Bourne Bridge.

If you've never been to the cape before, just know that it's pretty much the size of long island .....it's a DRIVE to get from one end to the other. - Do your research on tows and things to do if you don't want to be doing a lot of driving.
DH and I stupidly thought it was a 'town' ........ we had no idea we were taking a week to basically go to the equivalent of Eastern Long island, spread out over a bigger area.

hahaha! that is funny i thought the same thing...i thought cape cod was one town as well..until i started researching and found out there is like 20 towns...lol..so i decided to search in the more family friendly towns (hyannis/hyannisport) as well as the one with the ferry so we could do martha's vineyard day trip if we wanted!!!
thank you
so now that we are staying in hyannis...any suggestions on what to do and the "must sees"???

I'm so sorry- just saw this reply today!!
Definitely check out Dennisport and Chatham. Both of those are beautiful beach towns with lots to see and do. Also Provincetown. It's the far tip of the cape but the drive out there is gorgeous and there is LOTS of fun festivals and things going on out there all summer. If you go in July, there is a big fair in Mashpee ( called the Barnstable Town Fair).
Hope that helps!!

Chatham is a really cute town to walk around
There are tons of places to play mini golf that are lots of fun
I forget the name of the places but when we used to go there years ago there were several playhouses that had puppet or children's theater.
If your children can handle boats - there are opportunities to go on whale watches
We used to rent bikes. There were lots of bike trails.
