Vacationing to Florida. Family Friendly beaches?
Can anyone recommend beaches/towns that are family friendly (not Disney). I'm not really familiar with Florida at all and would like some ideas to research. Thanks.

We had such a great time at Redington Beach, near St. Pete.
Water was nice and calm, it was the gulf.
Our hotel had a great restaurant and bar scene, so we did not really ever leave that area.
eta we stayed at the doubletree

Re: Vacationing to Florida. Family Friendly beaches?
We stayed at a resort in Naples, FL on the West Coast (which is on the Gulf of Mexico). Beautiful beaches and water. My brother lives in the Ft. Meyers area and they also have family friendly beaches and resorts. It's about 30 minutes from Naples. I love it there and would visit more often if I could.

I agree with Janice about St Pete and the surrounding areas.
Captiva is nice, and we've also been to Clearwater Beach which I really liked too.

another vote for the west coast and St. Pete beach area
you can fly right into Tampa and besides the beaches you also can visit Busch Gardens, Sea World, the zoo, & children's museum

Re: Vacationing to Florida. Family Friendly beaches?
I think we're going to rent a house/condo since we're going with another family. We have a place booked in Mexico already but airfare is way too expensive so the trip is getting to be out of everyone's budget. So I'm looking for a plan B beach to rent a house at.

Thanks!! I'm going to research this. We'll have 5 kids on this trip total so this would be great.
