Vacations with a toddler - cot/crib/bed related

Last year when we went on vacation with DS, he was still in a crib so we had a crib in the hotel room (it was a 2 room suite actually so the crib was in the other room) and he slept fine. But we have since made the switch to a toddler bed which he does very well with but its HIS room which is familiar to him.

I am worried about doing the same thing but with a cot this year or a one room hotel room with 2 beds. I seriously cannot imagine DS falling asleep in a different bed than his own on top of the fact that DH and I will be right there with him.

Any advice from the parents who have taken their toddlers on vacation please? I really want to go somewhere! We always try to do a trip for our anniversary. Chat Icon

DS is not in a toddler bed at home. But he slept at my SILs recently overnight in bed with my nephew. Then when I babysit over there 1x a month, him and my niece like to nap together on the futon.

And when we were in disney, he napped in bed with DH and I (in his whole life, not including this trip he has only been in bed with DH and I 2x) and did just fine.

I just followed the same routine, story, singing etc and would lay with him with my eyes closed so he knew it was sleep time.

My son is 2.5 and still in a crib but we have travelled a few times with him and he has slept in air mattresses (brought it with us to Disney in the fall) at times even though he hasn't been in a crib at home. My older son slept in beds on vacations as well as the air mattress and never had an issues. They are adaptable - I bet he'll do better than you expect.

We just got back from visiting family in FL.
DS is 3 and did great on a twin air mattress.

Thank you! I think my future BIL has an air mattress I can borrow. Good idea.
