Vaccines and Autism

I know nothing has been proven but I was just curious to see if anyone has altered their DC's vaccine schedule because of the research done about this. Feel free to FM if you do not want to discuss publicly but I would love to hear about where to find more information and how you were able to spread out the vaccines. Thanks.

I have not. I do not believe there is a link. But it is an indivdual thing and plenty of people have.

From my research- you can do ANYTHING you want. Whether or not your Dr. agrees or not may be a different story.

I have stuck to the CDC schedule- and that was after an agonizing decision making process. I was going to start splitting them into 2 shots a month. BUT~ after having a real heart-to-heart with my PED (who I LOVE) I decided to go with the regular schedule.

HOWEVER- if I had to do it all again, I think I would have split her first round into 2 a month. I just feel that 5 vaccines is such a huge stressor to a 2 month old.

That said.... I will be delaying the MMR until she's 2- and it WON'T be split (the split version has thimerisol).

Good luck in your quest- there is a lot of false info and propaganda out there, so make sure you wade through it slowly and objectively before you make your decisions.

I only let them give 2 at one time and I have delayed the MMR.

I have delayed or not given Andrew most of his shots. The MMR I will not be giving to him until May when he is 2 and then I will be splitting it up. The only reason I have to sort of "give In' is because he is going to school in Sept and they are making me give him some of the shots.

I delayed MMR.

Next baby I will know more. I should have never given in to the hep B shot in the hospital. I felt pressured and was too tired to go against them.

Now, he has an extra hep b in him, due to the drs office switching shots and combining other shots.

When researching, listen to both groups. The medical side and the mom side.

Our PED splits the shot schedule up. We go in for extra visits, but that is fine with me. I was MUCH more comfortable with how she does the shot schedule compared to other PEDs in my area. I will be delaying the MMR for as long as I can. My PED has no problem with that.

It's your personal choice what you decide to do. Just make sure you discuss it with your PED and do some research for yourself.

After much research and debate, we gave our son the MMR at 15 months (rather than 12 months). He is in daycare and I am worried about him catching something so I felt it was important for him to have. I no longer feel that the MMR shot causes autism. DH and I discussed splitting up the MMR into 3 shots, but did not because nobody could tell us what the point of that method was. You have to do your own research and trust your own instincts though - this is your child and only your family has to live with your decisions. Good luck.

I have not delayed or split anything up, and I won't be. I will continue this with the next child that I have, as well. I do not believe there is a link between vaccines and autism.

It seems to me that there hasnt been any solid proof that the shots cause the problem.

I work in the field as a teacher of children with special needs in a psychiatric day treatment center - having taught children with Autistic Spectrum Disorders (ASDs) for 12 years. It is my opinion that there are more diagnoses of ASD's now than there were years ago and thats why it may be perceived as more of an "epidemic". Knowing the field, I see MANY children who were NEVER diagnosed or misdiagnosed. You would be surprised how years ago, NOBODY would dare put a "label" on their child even though it entitled their children to FREE services by the state/home school district - something I will NEVER understand.

I understand the concern that parents have and face (especially now that I too will become a parent soon) but I do not plan on withholding any vaccinations from my children. IMO, the benefits of having the shots outweigh the risks of NOT having them.

I followed my pediatritions schedule. Steven got two shots a month and the MMR at his 12 month.
