VBAC....

Just curious anyone here plan on VBAC with their next one???

Anyone here VBAC at all????

I always wonder what my decision will be when the time comes...???

Id like to go through vaginal birth, but I am also worried about the dangers after having a c-section..

I also had a VERY GOOD experience with my c-sect... so I guess I was a little spoiled....However I have also heard c-sect #2+ is more difficult...

Whats everyones thoughts on this????

ETA: Im just curious....not more babies coming from me for a really really really really really really really really (get the point?) long time...Chat Icon

Re: VBAC....

Can't speak from experience but my one friend who like you when in for a scheduled c section had a VBAC last year with her daughter and everything was perfect. No complicaitons whatsoever and a great delivery.

Now my other friend who went through labor, dilated to 10 and pushed but the baby wouldn't come down is due with her second in February. She wanted a VBAC but the hospital we both use doesn't do them. Her doc said she wasn't a good candidate because she actually went through all the steps of labor and ended with the c section. To ease her mind she had to get a second opinion (she was willing to switch hospitals) but got the same response, not a good candidate.

On a third note another friend opted for her second c section and said it was great and easy recovery.

It seemd like you would probably be a good candidate for a VBAC if you wanted but I'm sure your doctor will go over all the options when the time comes.

Re: VBAC....

When the time comes for #2 I would LOVE to have a VBAC, since I had a HORRIBLE c/s experience, but I am also terrified of the risk of uterine rupture. Initially my dr seemed to indicate that as a rule they dont like to do VBAC, but Im not sure if I could push it or if I would maybe get other opinions. It will be a hard choice for me.........

Re: VBAC....

There are MANY opinions on this. I was offered a VBAC but after MUCH consideration for my health, my body, Jeremys health and weighing the potential occurances I opted for a repeat C. Totally my personal choice!

The risk of uterun rupture is LOW. VERY LOW. The chance of something going wrong during the surgery is about the same. As long as you are in the hospital being monitored (my doc said I would have to be hooked up all the time, no roaming, I had that with Emma (internal monitor) and was MISERABLE) if your uterus does rupture then they get you to the OR and get baby out ASAP but like I said, its a low chance of that happening. ALSO they cant induce you because it would put too much stress on the scar with the contractions.

I experienced labor with Emma, I did it all with her except pushing her out. She was an emergency C. My recovery with her was AWFUL. I didnt have any drugs with her and then surgery. So all that stress on my body really took its toll. But after Jeremy was born I was up and at em the next day walking the halls as soon as they let me. My recovery with C/S #2 was fabulous!

Your best bet is to talk it out with your doc. Tell him/her that you are seriously considering doing a VBAC and let them tell you what they think then get a second opinion. A lot of docs dont like the liability but maybe a midwife would be your best option.

A friend of mine was told she could only have x amount o f children cuz of her c-sect...

I think my magic # is gonna be 4....but who knows... i could end up wanting 6Chat Icon Chat Icon

I dont want to be told how many children im "allowed" to have....

This makes feel a whole lot better about the options. I had a terrible c-section experience the 1st time ( glad to know the second might be better) and am considering a vbac for the 2nd time. I am glad to hear that the risk is low for either one I choose....

Hmmmm...I'm really torn on this one.

I did NOT enjoy the c-section one bit. I think I had a borderline anxiety attack during the procedure when I couldn't feel my legs, then I insisted I felt something when they were testing to see if I was numb and I'm pretty sure they doped me up a bit further when I started laughing maniacally! Chat Icon I also wish I were a bit more "present" during the actual birth--I remember the doctor announcing it was a girl, being REALLY excited, hearing her cry and then that was about it. My recovery was no walk in the park either.

So, you think I'd be running to the VBAC, but I too am a bit worried about the stress to the wound/uterine rupture, especially since I don't plan on waiting too long for #2. And selfishly, I have to admit, I kinda like being "virginal" down there!! Definitely something I am going to have to think long and hard about...

Re: VBAC....

I am definitely going to try and VBAC with my second, which is due in May. My doc fully supports me and sees now reason why I can't, provided the baby isn't breech, like my first one was.

I had a very good c/s recovery the first time, and I am not opposed to having one again. I fully trust my doc and have faith in him that we'll make the right choice when the time comes.

Re: VBAC....

If you want a VBAC and your OB says "we don't do them" then say "thank you but you are a moron" and find a new OB. That doctor is making a blanket statement and not making a good medical decision for YOU. But rather they are telling ALL women what they should or should not do, and that is not based on medical facts. They work for you. You don't work for them. You have a RIGHT to avoid unnecessary surgery. Unless your doctor can give you a real medical reason why YOU can't have a VBAC or why VBAC is not safe for YOU you have every right to VBAC IMO.

VBAC women should have 18 months between births and you CANNOT use any type of labor promoting drugs like Pit. That is unsafe actually.

I am not someone who thinks a VBAC should be forced on women either. It should be your right to have one though.

U/R is a risk that ALL pregnant mothers are faced with...it is very, very, very low and extermely rare. U/R is a serious thing when it happens but again, the risks of a c/s there too. There are tons of things that can go wrong during surgery. Ask your doctor about all of those risks. What cracks me up is he/she will say "these are very rare" yet U/R is also very rare. Scheduled c/s are easier for OBs and they get paid more money too.
There are times that a RCS is necessary but those conditions are actually pretty rare.
If you need VBAC support please let me know. I know tons of great resources and women who have had perfectly healthy happy VBACs that I can link you too.
Sorry but I am very passionate about women's birthing rights.

I've thought about it and although at first I thought I'd want to try a VBAC, now I'm leaning toward a repeat c/s.

I went through labor and that was all I really cared about, I have very little interest in actual vaginal birth, if that makes any sense. I'm very happy that at least one part of my body stayed in tact after having a baby, so I'd like to keep it that way. Chat Icon

Re: VBAC....

Im going to try for a VBAC. My OB thinks Im a great candidate for one since I already had a good vbirth with my son, I progressed well and actually had a very nice experience overall. He was over 9 lbs too which makes it even more likely that I would be able to VBAC. My daughter was breech which is why I had a c/s so it wasnt something physically with me like a failure to progress. With that said, I am also preparing myself that I could end up with another c/s. I'd prefer not to but I do think a few of the things that made my c/s recovery less than thrilling can be prevented - eating solids too soon, not walking enough right away - so I do know what NOT to do if I end up with another. But of course Im hoping for a VBAC.

Re: VBAC....

I anm not even sure if I have an option. I was 11 days late with my son and was FINALLY induced. I was given cervigel and pertosiin (spelling) I had conreactions but never dialated past 3 so I think they dont want me tp gp through this again. My water did break with the contractions but then nothing. I was admitted to hospital for inducement on May 28th in the morning and had c -section next day. So i have a feeling I am just a c-section. I havent even asked doc about vbac.

I am not even sure if Winthrop allows it anyway.

Re: VBAC....

I had a wonderful c/s experience, but a vbac is definately something I'd like to try for. I just feel like there were things I didnt get to do in the hospital, like see my daughter and hold her, try to breastfeed her, immediately after she was born -- and a lot of that was because of a c-section. She had complications and I know that's why it was SO long before I was able to see and hold her, but still, I thikn it would have been different if I had a vag birth.

I wouldh ave to speak to my DR about it. She was nearly 10 lbs so they might not want me to deliver another 10 lb baby if that happens again -- that was the reason for this c-section. But we have to decide that all when it happens, which hopefully won't be until a few years from now! Chat Icon

Re: VBAC....

Women can and do have 10lbs every single day. And one 10lb is not saying that all of your babies will be that large. Don't let anyone force you into a c/s with the "big baby" card...it is just not fair to you.
