Venmo privacy
When I go into my Venmo account, I see what my friends have paid others. Why are transactions public like that? I set mine to private but why do I need to see that my friends sister gave her money for picking up her dry cleaning?

Re: Venmo privacy
A surprising number of people don't know to do or how to do that. I try to maintain privacy everywhere I can online too, though nothing online is truly temporary or anonymous.

Re: Venmo privacy
I think of it as kinda like a form of social media. If say, a group of friends and I vacation together, it's cute to see the different emojis we use with our payments for the trip. I mean, it's not the most fun activity in the world, but some mild entertainment lol

Because your friends sister didn't set hers to private.

Its dumb and I set mine to private. I don't need people to know who or why I send money.

Re: Venmo privacy
i think some do it for accountability. if someone is collecting money for a group, you know exactly how much that person was given and by whom.

Re: Venmo privacy
You need to set it to private. My husband had to tell someone in a major leadership role at his company that he could see his transactions. Luckily they have a close relationship where it was okay. The other guy was embarrassed but thankful to be told. He did not realize the transaction was public.

Was it for something embarrassing? Like...to Dave....thanks for picking up my hemorrhoid cream? Or to Bambi...for...lap dance?

Why on earth is a financial website not automatically private? I have only used Pay Pal (and very infrequently). I definitely won't use Venmo now. I don't want people knowing my financial transactions.

Venmo privacy
I swear someone paid someone for weed the other day, and I couldn’t believe they advertised it that publicly. Mine is totally private, but I swear I check it all the time to make sure.

They might have it set to "Friends". That means everyone in their friends list can see their transactions. I have mine set to private (no one can see my transactions, not even my friends).

Venmo privacy
Mine is set to private but when I first was on Venmo and realized how “public” it was I spent a little while looking at acquaintances’ transactions... I agree that people definitely should monitor their settings better.

I wonder if they were joking or they really just don’t care. Or maybe it’s legal in their state lol.
I just saw someone write for steroids and the person commented back you and assholee so clearly it was a joke lol

Re: Venmo privacy
Wow- thanks for posting this. I just assumed mine was set to private bc I am always very private, but apparently I did not check and set it, and it was automatically set to PUBLIC for the whole of the internet to see?!
Not that I did had any scandalous transactions, but why on god's green earth does anyone want or need to know what I buy? I think social media has officially gone too far.

Re: Venmo privacy
Venmo was originally created for college friends to "pay cash" to their friends for college-type things, like pizza, dinner, parties, other shared expense type things. It almost made sense with how it was first designed. Now, it's used for business transactions, so they really should default to Private. They were sued about this very issue. The FTC said they have to let the users know about the settings and how to change them, but whatever they did to make the FTC happy doesn't really work...
I keep mine set to Private. I don't do anything nefarious or anything, I just don't want the entire world knowing what I gave someone money for, even if it's just for a fundraising activity, or pizza.
