Vent: Manicures-Polish
I got every week for manicures. The least I can do for myself.
By day 3 I have chipped polish!
I dont get it! I have to do dishes, some manual labor but geesh, by day 3 it looks like I went through a war.
They use Essie products, maybe its the top coat?
I sometimes do my own nails and they last so much longer.

Re: Vent: Manicures-Polish
I think it is because they put so many coats of polish on. I tell my lady not to put a basecoat. It has helped. when you think about it, it is really like 4-5 coats of polish when they do it.

I agree! The polish just does not stay on my nails.

This used to happen to me too. My place uses Essie but I have them use Nail Doctor for the base and top coats and it lasts about a week. They charge me an extra $2 for it but its worth it IMO.

Re: Vent: Manicures-Polish
Here's my tip. Buy Sticky Base (its by Creative) Use OPI polish and Seche Vite for your top coat. I can go 10 days to 2 weeks with a manicure. It's growout that makes me have to get them done again.

Re: Vent: Manicures-Polish
I am happy if I get a day without chips. I think it's because they don't let the polish dry enough between coats. I also suspect they use some kind of thinner on older polish so it's easy to use - a couple of times I bought colors I liked only to find they are darker then the color on the shelf.
I try to be a little proactive and put a clear coat on every evening. I get a couple of more days out of it that way.

Re: Vent: Manicures-Polish
That used to always happen to me when I got manicures. The polish would actually "peel" off in one peice!

Re: Vent: Manicures-Polish
I really think it has to do with the polish that they use. I've seen them take polish to the main desk and thin it down. I do think that they thin the polish down a lot to get more use out of it and that it effects it's durability.
I usually bring a backup color with me in my purse, so that if I can't decide on a color I'll just use that, and when I use my backup color it lasts WAY longer --- I can get a good 5 days or so out of a manicure instead of 2. And then I like the fact that I have the bottle at home nad can touch it up as necessary.
And I'm n ot using expensive, fancy polish either --- I usually just bring Avon polish with me because a lady I work with sells it.

Re: Vent: Manicures-Polish
I recently started using OPI polish and found that it lasts WAY longer than Essie on me. Literally went from 2-3 days to a full week without chips.
I would try a different brand.

Re: Vent: Manicures-Polish
this is why I stopped getting manicures every week and started painting my own nails. it was so aggravating.
that was a few years ago - now I just wear clear.

Re: Vent: Manicures-Polish
this is exactly why I only get clear. I couldn't deal with the chipping and if I couldn't get back for another manicure so quickly, I hated the way my nails looked.
I do 2 coats of Nailtiques-- it's shinier than the regular top coat.

Re: Vent: Manicures-Polish
I have the same problem. Sometimes mine chip the next day! I always bring my own polish (Essie or OPI), base and top coat. I have about 20 colors now
The only way to make my manicure last almost a week is to put on top coat daily. Which who the heck has time to do that!

I just bought this base coat yesterday. They were sold out of the Seche Vite top coat though.
