sounds like it only applies for new customers:

"Nothing changes for existing customers who currently have a New Every Two credit."

Re: Verizon (cell phone) users... getting rid of New Every Two.

from what I have read that current users will get one last new every two, once they resign the contract however it will not be extended.

Re: Verizon (cell phone) users... getting rid of New Every Two.

"A Verizon spokeswoman confirmed in an email sent late Thursday to InformationWeek that the carrier was dropping its "New Every Two" promo for people who sign up for the service starting Jan. 16, which is roughly three weeks before the iPhone 4's debut on Verizon"

So wouldn't that mean that current subscribers will be fine?

Later in the article they say nothing will happen to those who have a New Every Two credit already.

I hope this is only for new subscribers.

What I read in another article is that if you're currently mid-contract, you get your "new every two," but once you renew, you will not be getting it anymore. Chat Icon

Re: Verizon (cell phone) users... getting rid of New Every Two.

We were in the store over the weekend and the salesman told us about it. We still had the credit on our account so we were able to upgrade this time. Its annoying they're taking it away. I liked the option to upgrade to a new phone every couple of years.

It's only for people who get the iphone service.

You don't have to worry.

not sure where you got this from but they are ending the program for everybody.

Basically, new contracts won't have the New Every Two credit and people that have it now, it will be there last time to use it.

Keep in mind people, you can always get a phone cheaper via 3rd party. Maybe not at first when a brand new phone comes out but it will be discounted there first before Verizon.

Re: Verizon (cell phone) users... getting rid of New Every Two.

Well that sucks! I have a credit right now, just not ready to get a new phone just yet.

But I am confused...can you get a new phone if your contract is up?

Re: Verizon (cell phone) users... getting rid of New Every Two.

If you have their service you will get 1 more new every 2 upgrade then after that it's gone.

Makes me want to go to Boost mobile since i can get more stuff at 1/2 the price.

i was going to post this as well. if you have a current contract with verizon, you'll get one more free phone (or discount).

Verizon is the first of the phone companies to do it, but all are expected to follow.

The original artile the OP posted.

"A Verizon spokeswoman confirmed in an email sent late Thursday to InformationWeek that the carrier was dropping its "New Every Two" promo for people who sign up for the service starting Jan. 16, which is roughly three weeks before the iPhone 4's debut on Verizon. The promotion offered customers as much as $50 off their next phone, if they renewed a two-year service contract after 20 months.

"Nothing changes for existing customers who currently have a New Every Two credit."

I did read it wrong at first- I thought it was for people who are first signing up for the Iphone but it's for everyon who signs up after Jan 16.

Re: Verizon (cell phone) users... getting rid of New Every Two.

This is direct from the VZW FAQs section on their website:

What is New Every Two®?

New Every Two was a marketing program available to customers who signed up for a two-year plan of at least $34.99 per month. Enrolled customers were eligible for a $30 or $50 credit toward a new phone depending on their monthly access tier.

New lines of service will no longer be enrolled in the New Every Two program. If you are currently enrolled, you may redeem your New Every Two benefit one more time for up to six months after fulfilling 20 months of your two-year term.

Re: Verizon (cell phone) users... getting rid of New Every Two.

I thought this was an additional credit that they are getting rid of. You should still be eligible for upgrade pricing on phones every two years.

If you have to start paying full retail for phones (even after two years)... it just shows how Verizon is overpriced and OVERRATED.

This does not apply to all phones.

Show me where I can buy an iphone cheaper third party. iPhones for instance sell for MORE than retail on ebay at launch.

And third party resellers couldn't even get their hands on the IP4 for at least a month or two when it first came out (due to demand).

I believe the PP was referring to smart phones in general and not specifically the iphone. Not everyone wants the iphone. Right now Best Buy is offering a an awesome deal on smart phones that is better than going to AT&T, Verizon, Sprint, etc.

Exactly why I will never purchase my new phone from the actual store, but through a third party like Best Buy.

Re: Verizon (cell phone) users... getting rid of New Every Two.

Why can't they just say that it doesn't apply to iphones? Everyone is saying that Verizon's network is going to go to crap and get all slow because that is what happened to AT&T.

So I will most likely switch when my contract is up. WTG Verizon.
