Verizon FIOS
Anyone have or know anybody that has this service? Im wondering if its better than Cablevision b/c it seems to have more channels for less money, is more organized and easier to understand the packages. I have the triple play in hd and dvr w/ cablevision and Im curious to know if any one has any experiences with this service, which offers the same products and services as cablevision. Maybe its a better deal??! Thank you.

Re: Verizon FIOS
I know that DH is obsessed with this, if it was offered in our area, he would sign up for it in heartbeat. It is through fiber optic lines, so the quality of the picture will be much better than anything cable or satellite can give you. It is also cheaper now because verizon wants people to sign up for it and get the word out.

Re: Verizon FIOS
We live in Merrick and just had it put it. WE LOVE IT!!!!! We pay extra for the DVR box and HBO but it is worth it. We have the phone, cable and internet and even with the upgrades we are paying less than what we payed for cablevision. Plus they install a back up battery so you still have TV and internet if the electric goes out.

Re: Verizon FIOS
If its avaiable, switch...but the roll out is slow because they physically have to lay out new cables on every block so it may be some time until its in your area.
Service should be good. Fiber Optic has a much higher capcity to carry siginals producing a clean image. Internet wise, the speed is improved over cable but then again, most people don't use their bandwith avaiable.
Its based out of Massapquea Park. I'm next door in Amityville but our roll out is not for some time to come.

Re: Verizon FIOS
It's not available in our area either yet, but we're on an email list.
We'll probably be out of here before they install anyway. I heard it's great, and a better deal too.

I hear Verizon's internet connection speed is consistent, unlike Cablevision.

I am a huge supporter of Verizon FIOS. DH installs FIOS. He says the pictures are just amazing. We just got a new television and it's HD and cant wait for FIOS to be in our area.

I am so mad!! I want it so bad but Malverne is trying to fight it here because they won't give us channel 18 which is our local channel.
I could be saving soo much money right now but thanks to Malverne I am not!!!!!!!!
you won't be saving that much money with the exception of the first year when you can get a promo deal. (similar to that of the triple play for cablevision)

Re: Verizon FIOS
anyone using the internet service yet? when i first switched to optonline years ago it always went out. will this happen with fios at first? It will probably be the year 2035 before we get it here anyway, we just got city water about 5 years ago, we still have mailboxes on one side of the street & we don't even have natural gas I can dream though, I HATE cablevision

This can happen with either service.

i'm sure it can. but since it's our only personal experience with verizon, we're staying away until they iron out their glitches (which is what the guys told us!)

What good is the TV and Internet if the electirc goes out? Your TV and Computer do not run on the Verizon backup battery.

Re: Verizon FIOS
I just called for a price quote and will be switching as soon as I move.
Cablevision triple play is a good deal and all, but the price jumps after one year and again after two. I'm about to hit the 2 year mark and i'm about to jump way over $200/month for all three. Verizon gives me all three - with the extras I want - for $180 including taxes, and that's not a promo.
I've also had Directv in the past. It's good but their prices went up a lot.
