Very high fever-questions for those who have roseola experience
My DD started with a fever last night-around 102 before bed. I gave her motrin and she slept all night, woke up today with 103. We went to the ped, they said it was viral..her strep test was negative, exam was clear. All day the fever was between 104-105 WITH tylenol and motrin. She was totally happy and herself, running around and playing normally, not lethargic at all. I called the ped again who said try not to focus on the number, but her mood and keep alternating the meds. I'm thinking it might be roseola but we won't know that until the fever breaks...SO, my question is, if your child has had roseola, how high did the fever get? How were they acting?
Thank you in advance!!

Re: Very high fever-questions for those who have roseola experience
DD had roseola about a month ago she woke up friday night 104.3, Saturday thru out the day she ranged between 103 & 104.9, we went to PM peds on Sunday and it was 105.1. Ran every test you could think of all came back negative. She was CRANKY and sleepy. Monday she was 100%back to normal, Tuesday she developed the rash about midday, by Thursday the rash was gone. We alternated motrin and tylonol through the 3 days with the fever.
Hope your DD feels better!!!

Re: Very high fever-questions for those who have roseola experience
When DS had roseola, he had a temp of 105. He was extremely lethargic and was not doing well until the meds kicked in. They said he had an ear infection, but then two days later the rash came out...

Re: Very high fever-questions for those who have roseola experience
DD's highest temp was 103.5. Her throat was red and irritated and her glands were swollen according to the ped- who thought she had a virus. Here is the breakdown:
Thurs night 102 Fri morning 102.7 Fri night 103.5 Sat night fever broke Monday rash develops Wednesday rash disappears
ETA: her temperment was normal during fever but cranky & irritable during rash. motrin got us through those 2days.

Re: Very high fever-questions for those who have roseola experience
Mine had it and the fever was so high we were alternating tylenol and advil and it barely broke it. He wasn't as sick as I'd expect for his fever. After the fever broke, the rash came...

Re: Very high fever-questions for those who have roseola experience
Liam had it. He had around 104, sometimes more for 5 days. And the lowest we could get it was 103 with Tylenol and Motrin every 2hours for 5 days! He had recently had a febrile siezure and we had to be super careful.
He was miserable though. He had every single symptom. Diarehhea, sore throat, fever, not eating, irritable, tired, swollen eyelids.. you name it. He had it.
But, I understand that some kids don't get it as bad. He was awful for about a week, maybe more. He didn't feel better when the rash came either. The fever broke but, he was still miserable for like 3 days.
Hang in there. It's a long haul if that's what he has.

Re: Very high fever-questions for those who have roseola experience
Thanks everyone. She still had 104 through the night with meds. She's getting up now so we'll see what the day brings. Thank you!

Re: Very high fever-questions for those who have roseola experience
DD's fever was 102-103 during the day while alternating motrin and tylenol and over 104 (as high as 104.8) at night for 4 straight days. She acted ok during the day but was very sick at night. That was the worst time!! She also had an ear infection with it. Once the fever broke and the rash appeared she was totally normal!
