Vet meds vs. mail-order meds

If you get flea & tick protection or heartworm tablets from the vet, or from like, 1 800 petmeds or whatever - is there a difference in quality? I know the commercials SAY there's no difference...

I'm tempted by the money saving factor, but I want to do what's best for my dogs.

I buy Frontline from fosters and smith and seems to be exactly the same. Have not had one flea problem

My vet recommends not buying from them, and I trust him.

I used to get meds from the vet but they were twice the price.

I buy the meds from entirelypets.com the same stuff and my vet agrees.

Since we're on this subject.. Has anyone bought meds for their pet from Fosters & Smith catalog or on their site? I wonder if they are legit..as far as meds go.

See, that's what concerns me, because I've heard a few people say that. But the vet could be recommending not buying from them because it's in the best interest of the pet, OR just because then the vet loses out on the money.

I haven't asked my vet what he thinks about it yet.

we have bought frontline off of ebay plenty of times. The box has always been sealed, never opened.

We bought BioSpot from them, it was a less expensive alternative to Frontline. We used it on Kasey last year and didn't have any problems, so far so good this year too.

We got her heartworm medication from the vet, but once the supply runs out I plan on getting it from F&S too.

This is exactly my concern. As I understand it, there should be no difference between the frontline the vet sells vs. the one you buy from 1-800-Petmeds.

What is a good price for 3 months of frontline? My vet charges $30 and I am curious to know what others have paid!

Re: Vet meds vs. mail-order meds

On my last trip to my mom's, I bought Frontline in a pet supply store because apparently it doesn't require a Rx in South Carolina.

I'm not even sure if it was cheaper but I was glad I was able to buy some for the neighbor cat that likes to hang out at our house (who gave Bailey fleas last year!!).
