veterans day at work... lol update in first post
last year was my first veterans day at this company.
last year, there were two offices in this building and all the vets were in the office i'm not physically in.
i bought donuts for both offices.
this year, the other office has relocated and we have a vet in this office. i'd like to do a little something, but...
almost everyone in the office is on a diet of some sort, so donuts will go to waste.
what small gesture/treat would you suggest for me to bring in on monday?
UPDATE: because it's funny i hit the store and i bought bagels (which were just out of the oven and smelled heavenly), i bought a fruit tray, and a veggie tray. i carry all of this into the office and i'm feeling so good for doing something healthiER than the norm.
well, TWO other people brought in DONUTS!!!
so much for that

Re: veterans day at work
If everyone is on a diet, bagels, muffins and breads are not a good idea. What about a fruit platter or fruit salad? And a box of Joe from DD? Or does Starbucks do a box of coffee?

A fruit platter would be great. Those are a hit in my office, so refreshing

I find that everyone in my office is always on a diet but will still eat fruit salad and some type of healthy muffin or bagel when they serve breakfast.
Donuts scream sugar and the worse type of food.

I get it but bagels and muffins are probably worse. I was at DD and a donut was 250 calories and an oat bran muffin was 450 calories. Disgraceful. And forget bagels. Carbs turn right to sugar so you may be better off with a donut . And to be honest fruit is full of sugar too so hard core people may not eat it either. But a plate of hard boiled eggs doesn't sound too exciting!

Trust I know, I’ve done all the diets and no carbs and sugar are the first that should go when you diet. Even coffee, so it doesn’t matter any items suggested isn’t going to be good for a diet.
But I know what “diet” office would eat. I’m sure people are on diets but it’s rare a whole office is on a hard core diet. Most people say “diet” and really mean they are watching what they eat.

Fruit platter. It's something that everyone can pick on all day long and it won't go bad sitting out.

LOL yep! And that is why most "diets" fail. And why people are constantly on "diets". Coffee is zero calroies though- black. Which I could never do.

Could you donate to a local Veterans organization in lieu of treats?

Fruit platter and maybe something a bit heartier— quiche or a frittata?

I like this idea. Maybe print up a little sign or share the link and perhaps others will donate too.
You could decorate a little sign in a photo frame and put some red/white/blue decorations or maybe a balloon. Something like a “thank you for your service, as a token of appreciation a donation has been made to X”

What about a veggie tray if everyone is on a diet? You can always have a fruit tray as well for those who want it

Ha ha.. yes they are obsessed with this Cuban restaurant.
I am actually making Arroz con gandules and Empanadas for our Pot Luck. There was a dietary restriction column and people were putting vegan, healthy etc. I put definitely not Vegan or Healthy.

Re: veterans day at work
i always remind people that sugar, oil, oreos, and pilsbury frosting are all vegan lol
back when i was vegan... and now... i always allowed myself to eat whatever i wanted i christmas eve. gotta have me some pernil and all the fixin's
as far as tomorrow morning... i was planning to bake something, but knew i would nibble. so i decided to stop at the store on my way to work.
i'll get a dozen bagels, a fruit tray, and a veggie tray. it's simple, it's relatively healthy, and i'll feel good about doing a little something for the vet in our office.

I would bring in a bag of chocolate and people can take or not take, it wont go bad. In my expedience people like peanut M&M.
If everyone is on a diet dont bring in anything but a card and a box a chocolate for the one vet
