Vineyard Hotels/Accomodations?

So, DH and I are starting to plan our Anniversary trip. Yeay! We'd like to go out east to the wineries for the weekend. Do you guys know of any really nice hotels, inns, etc.? It would be either the last weekend in October or the first in November. DH is not really into Bed and Breakfasts.

TIA!

North Fork Hotels, Motels, Inns, & Resorts on Eastern Long Island, NY

Hotels, Motels, Inns, & Resorts

There are few "chain" hotels on the North Fork. These maintain the degree of hospitality, cost, and ambience for which the corporations are known. Far more motels/hotels/inns are privately owned. Those listed below have been personally visited by North Fork Weddings.

Best Western East End
Route 25
Riverhead, NY 11901
(631) 369-2200
www.bestwesterneastend.com
When you want to the comfort and conveniences of a noted hotel chain, but the charm of a local and privately owned lodging establishment, this hotel is just the spot. Totally remodeled under the new ownership, the hotel features beautifully appointed rooms decorated with the charm and style of the East End. Many have Jacuzzis and all are equipped with the most up to date amenities. It is located right next to Tanger Mall and is minutes off Exit 72 on the LIE. The hotel has conference rooms, a restaurant, an elegant ballroom, gardens and an outdoor swimming pool. Riverhead is the Gateway to the East End so that guests can visit both North Fork Wine Country and The Hamptons with equal ease.

The Blue
7850 Main Road
East Marion, NY 11939
(631) 477-0907
www.bluedolphinresort.com
The Blue may well be the most fun of any lodging establishment on the North Fork. All rooms are charming and have small kitchen facilities so that you can chill that bottle of local wine and make your own breakfast if you wish. Some rooms have Jacuzzis, suites can accommodate families, and there are even some private cottages available. Outdoors there is a great pool with comfortable lounge chairs, a volley ball court, a playground area, and shade providing trees. The caf? serves up casual fare and music is provided at the outdoor pavilion nights on weekends. Want still more? How about some spa treatments at the newly added full service spa center? Massages, facials, body treatments and more are available right on premises. The Blue permits pets in some rooms and there are even a few smoking rooms available. The Blue is a great choice for a vacation or weekend getaway for couples, families, and groups. (See Venues)

The Chequit Inn
23 Grand Avenue
Shelter Island Heights, NY 11965
(631) 749-0018
www.shelterislandinns.com/chequit/
Location, location, location!! The Chequit supplies a lively atmosphere which is counter balanced by its setting in the historic area. You can walk to the village shops, the Greenport Ferry, or throughout the gingerbread house lined streets. Some of the guest rooms are located within the inn itself, while others are in adjacent buildings. All accommodations are bright, comfortable, and loaded with amenities. Guests at The Chequit also enjoy the amenities at Ram's Head Inn since both inns are owned by the Ecklunds. If you are planning a very large event, and if you plan ahead, you may be able to have your guests stay at both of these inns, and arrange gatherings at one or the other. (See Restaurants, Venues, & Activities)

Dreamers Cove Inn
15 Bay Avenue
Aquebogue, NY 11931
(631) 722-3212
www.dreamerscoveinn.com
Dreamers Cove Inn lets people experience the North Fork as I knew it growing up. A beachy casual place, the property is fronted by water on two sides so that all rooms have great views. Rooms vary in size from a two bedroom suite with living room and full kitchen, to a large room with kitchen facilities. Whichever you choose, you are only steps from a private beach and lawn area. This is a perfect place for bachelor/bachelorette parties, for family reunions, and for individual getaways. It's not fancy but it's great fun and could even be a location for a casual wedding. Another big plus is that guests are equidistant from the wineries or from The Hamptons. At the end of a day touring, partying, swimming, or just soaking up the sun, the night skies over Peconic Bay must surely inspire dreaming and so the name, Dreamers Cove Inn is perfectly appropriate!

Harborfront Inn at Greenport
209 Front Street
Greenport, NY 11944
(631) 477-0707
www.theharborfrontinn.com
The Harborfront Inn is a 21st century luxury hotel smack dab in the middle of a Norman Rockwell scene. The counterpoint of modern design in the lobby with its dark wooden floors and unique architectural details against the delightfully small town ambience complete with a carousel in the park and ships in the harbor balances perfectly. All rooms are spacious and have such amenities as Frette™ linens, flat screen televisions, CD stereo systems, high-speed internet access and massaging body sprays in the showers. (The bathrooms are just amazing, especially the Terrace Suite with its Jacuzzi tub!) The suites are truly magnificent, the largest having its own private 900-square-foot deck overlooking Mitchell Park, Greenport Harbor and Shelter Island. I just can't imagine a more romantic spot for a bride and groom. Many of the 35 rooms have similar views that are gorgeous by day or night. Every attention to your comfort and pleasure has been given: complimentary continental breakfast in the lobby in front of a fireplace and curved bar, local art in the hallways, lobby and guest rooms, a fitness center and inviting furniture. The hotel has been featured in many national publications and has received accolades from everywhere. It is convenient to all wineries, restaurants, shops, ferries, trains and buses. Truly a luxury, it is one you can't afford to miss.

Holiday Inn Express East End
1707 Old Country Road
Riverhead, NY 11901
(631) 548-1000
www.hieeastend.com
The only thing express about this hotel is the staff's surefire ability to tend to all your comforts fast! Its 89 rooms are beautifully appointed in a d?cor that is far from "chain hotel" style. Each room is bright, airy, modern, comfortable, and totally captures the style of the East End. Leisure travelers to the East End find themselves perfectly situated to explore the entire East End. One day can be spent in North Fork Wine Country and another in the trendy Hamptons, and still another at Tanger Outlet Malls right down the road. Business travelers have all the modern amenities they need, including internet access from each room. You can't beat this hotel for convenience and comfort.

The Pridwin Hotel
Shelter Island, NY
(631) 749-0476 or (800) 273-2497
www.pridwin.com

There are very few resorts on the East End of Long Island and nowhere is there one more beautiful than The Pridwin Hotel. Located on the famous Crescent Beach on Shelter Island, this property offers guests a wide range of experiences. You can read by the pool, play a game of tennis, swim in the clear salt water, bicycle the shady twisty roads, golf, hike, kayak or kick back! The hotel is available for weddings, corporate events, and family vacations. Rooms are booked quickly in season, so be sure to make reservations early. My favorite time on Shelter Island is early fall, so be sure to ask about rates for this time of year also.

Ram's Head Inn
108 Ram Island Drive
Shelter Island, NY 11965
(631) 749-0811
www.shelterislandinns.com/ramshead/
There are seventeen rooms available, but they fill up very quickly in season, especially on weekends. The inn's popularity is well deserved. Guests enjoy not only charmingly comfortable rooms, but all the other resources: tennis court, private beach, a fleet of boats. Off season is easier to book, so if you can, take advantage of this. If you are having a corporate event, this inn is perfect. If you are getting married, this inn is perfect. If you just want to get away alone, this inn is perfect. Do you see a pattern here? (See Restaurants, Venues, & Activities)

The Sound View Inn
58775 North Road (Route 48)
Greenport, NY 11944
(631) 477-1910
www.SoundViewInn.com
If you love the beach, this is the place for you! Each room overlooks the Long Island Sound and has its own private deck and beach! The rooms are decorated simply but nicely and there are suites available. Children are welcome though there are some suites that are for adults only. It has a swimming pool, tennis courts, and cocktail lounge. One of my friends always has her parents stay there as her mother is wheelchair bound and the inn is so easy to navigate for the handicapped. Parking is directly outside the rooms and there are few, if any, steps through the entire establishment. The Soundview Inn is the only real resort facility on the North Fork. Bed and Breakfasts

Bed & Breakfasts are plentiful on the East End. Though most don't offer "hotel" amenities such as in room phones or television, they all provide the welcoming environment for which B&B's are so noted. Some townships limit the number of rooms, so except for a few that have been "grandfathered" most have a maximum of five rooms. Many B&B's are historic and all of them are decorated beautifully. Breakfast, either hearty continental or formal sit-down, is always provided. Because the B&B's are also the homes of the owners, decor and offering vary greatly, so you really should read descriptions and check out the websites. There are stairs and there are pets! If you have never stayed in one, you are in for a treat!

Always In' Bed and Breakfast
14580 Soundview Avenue
Southold, NY 11971
(631) 765-5344
www.northforkweddings.com/alwaysin/

Located on the North Fork's designated scenic road, Always In' is nestled in the woods and is within walking distance to LI Sound and Horton's Point Lighthouse. The home is a classic Williamsburg colonial and the décor is inspired by the owners' equestrian interests. The living room, with its daffodil yellow couch and tile bordered fireplace, features original paintings of the family's favorite horses. The two guest rooms continue this equestrian theme and are charmingly different. Innkeeper, Marguerite Schondebare, is the owner North Fork Weddings.com so she can provide you with great advice on how to best experience North Fork Wine Country. This B&B is truly a private home with a homey intimate ambience and is perfect for groups of four. Marguerite's breakfasts and personal attention to guests inspire guests to return again and again.

Andrew's Legacy Bed & Breakfast
35995 Main Road
Cutchogue, NY 11935
(631) 734-6052
www.andrewslegacy.com

We can only be thankful for the spirit of generosity that has moved the MacNish family to share their legacy. Named after the founding member of the family home, Andrew's Legacy allows guests to share in an extraordinary sense of family history, experience the gracious living of times long past, and bask in a warm hospitality born perhaps in the family's tradition of hotel ownership. Every piece of furniture, every antique linen, each hand sewn quilt, the reverse painted lamps, the paintings, the photographs, and all the artifacts tell a story and invite deeper curiosity. The dining room table remains set with antique glassware and even the silverware has a story behind it. This attention to detail and historical truth is present in guest rooms decorated so beautifully and feeling so comfortable you will feel like an honored guest of this venerable family. Liz MacNish possesses all the attributes of a gracious hostess. She is an extraordinary cook, a charming story teller, and is totally unassuming. She gives much of the credit for the home's beauty to her son, Mark, who she claims is the one with the "vision," and what a vision it is. Located in the heart of wine country, Andrew's Legacy represents the spirit of the North Fork.

Arbor View House Bed & Breakfast
8900 Main Road
P.O. Box 226
East Marion, NY 11939
(631) 477-8696
www.arborviewhouse.com

A true Victorian jewel, Arbor View House was built circa 1820 by Captain Vail when whaling was a major industry on the East End of Long Island. The historical nature of the home has been carefully maintained by innkeepers, Veda and Wilfred Joseph. With a nod to the newest industry on The North Fork, Long Island Wines, Veda and Wilfred have named their guest rooms after wine varieties such as Champagne, Merlot, and Zinfandel. This juxtaposition of the old and the new makes this charming inn the perfect location to explore the past and experience the present. The inn offers wireless internet, and whirlpool baths in a totally Victorian ambience. Spa services are available so you can have a massage in your room featuring an old fashioned red velvet headboard. Walk to the beach, sip wine in front of the fireplace, or tour the wineries after enjoying a sumptuous breakfast. This B&B is also very close to Greenport, a true harbor village, where you can ride a carousel or take a harbor cruise.

The Bartlett House
503 Front Street
Greenport, NY 11944
(631) 477-0371
www.bartletthouseinn.com
[email protected]

The Bartlett House is so gorgeous and the location is so perfect that I wish I could own the house myself! Fortunately for its guests, this uniquely large B&B is owned by Jack and Diane Gilmore who have put their hearts and souls into an extraordinary renovation project that put their stamp on this venerable property. Diane's impeccable taste has enhanced the architectural details in a manner satisfying to the purist, and her flair for showcasing Jack's collections from his world travels will satisfy the adventurer. There are ten rooms available and Diane welcomes guests with warmth and ease. The Bartlett House is one of Greenport's finest jewels. I have no doubt that in a short time this home will be listed as one of the best small hotels around in major travel magazines.

This B&B delivers all you would expect from a B&B in the heart of wine country. The innkeeper's, Nick and Caroline DiBartolo, are delightful people devoted to their guests comfort. Guest rooms are bright airy and spacious and all open onto balconies. Here is the part you may not have expected! Cranberry Hill is located on 18 acres of wooded land with creeks, ponds and trails for you to explore. Bursting with wildlife, this private enclave is a nature lover's dream come true. Bring your camera or easel to capture the sunset over Brush's Creek, and your binoculars to see some of the fabulous bird population. 1535 New Suffolk Avenue
Cutchogue, NY 11935
(631) 734-4180
www.wickhamsfruitfarm.com/house.htm

Prudence and Dan Heston are two of my favorite people and their B&B reflects so many of their qualities I admire. Their house is authentic; it has been restored, not renovated. The owners are equally authentic. Their respect for their land's history is evident in all they do, most notably, of course, in their decision to live on the family farm. Lucky for you, they are willing to share. This is a real working farm so you'll have the freshest produce and fruit, and get a chance to witness what it's like to live a farmer's life in the twenty first century! It's hard work but Prudence and Dan will be happy to share some funny and interesting anecdotes with you! However, because of the additional attention brides on their wedding days may require on their wedding day, Freddy's House requests that these special people visit before or after the big weekend! They'll be guaranteed more than a few night's rest; they'll experience time as it was meant to be. (See Activities)

Harbor Knoll Bed & Breakfast
424 Fourth Street
Greenport, NY 11944
(631) 477-2352
www.HarborKnoll.com

Situated at the end of a private lane and overlooking Greenport Harbor and Peconic Bay, Harbor Knoll Bed & Breakfast offers both a premiere location and premiere accommodations. Owned by Gordon and Leueen Miller, the home overflows with antiques that either have been in the family for generations or were collected during Leueen's extensive travels as a former ambassadress for the United Nations. Leueen's European sensibilities are evident in the delightfully cheery yet sophisticated fabrics. the graciously laid out table settings, and the superbly prepared breakfasts. Gordon's love of history has produced an epic library and perhaps his love of comfort produced such deep settling chairs! Ease of living, a criterion of all seaside homes, can be found on the wide screened porch, the broad lawn, and in each of the five guest rooms. If you have not yet been convinced to visit this B&B, let me add one more thing: the Millers are truly lots of fun!

There is glory in The Morning Glory not just at sunrise, but at noon, sunset, and midnight. It's a glory of the spirit manifest in the clear simplicity of balance, beauty, light and space. Innkeepers Renate and Klaus Wilhelm have imbued their home with their sense of joy and reflected it in the beautiful décor. The rooms are softly white, with flashes of color and vignettes of form. You can see all this on their website which truly captures the essence of this beautiful B&B. Renate's gourmet breakfasts move guests to linger over a second cup of coffee but soon they will want to explore Greenport's historic harbor area only a short walk down the street. The Morning Glory is perfectly located near wineries and some of the North Fork's finest restaurants. A visit to this exceptional B&B will move you closer to following the mantras declared by the titles of its guest rooms: Love Deeply, Laugh Out Loud, Live Deeply.

Orient Inn
25500 Main Road
Orient, NY 11957
(631) 323-2300
www.OrientInn-NY.com

This B&B has found its true essence through the talent and vision of its new owners. It reminds me of a beautiful chest of drawers that had been painted, but now is stripped down to its original wood and beauty. Joan, Karen and Howard saw the beauty of the architectural details at their new home and through their delightfully light touches, allowed them to stand for themselves. Since there are five rooms available, it is a wonderful choice for bridal parties as all can stay together. Every thing here is tended with great attention to detail and guests benefit from the owners' caring natures. (See Caterers/Event Planners and Activities)

The simple beauty of this true farmhouse is seen not only in the wrap around porch and country kitchen, but also in all the small touches: a bunch of wildflowers in a royal blue pitcher - an antique quilt displayed on a wall. The rooms have the perfect juxtaposition of creativity and authenticity. Its views are of farms and vineyards, its scents are of wildflowers and grapes. Its feeling is timelessness. There's an outdoor pool framed with specimen trees and bushes, a back porch covered with wisteria, a fireplace, books, and fresh flowers everywhere. Best of all, however, are the owners, Kim and Chris Allen. You will be especially comfortable in their presence, and after a weekend at their B&B, feel especially privileged to have met them.

Seatuck Cove House
61 South Bay Avenue
Eastport, New York 11941
(631) 325-3300
www.seatuckcovehouse.com

When I visited Seatuck Cove House, one of my favorite quotations came to mind: Those who contemplate the beauty of the earth find reserves of strength that will endure as long as life lasts. Rachel Carson. Indeed, this is a place to contemplate beauty. The views from every room are stupendous and no visitor can fail to feel a sense of calmness. The décor of the inn seems an extension of nature's beauty outside: clear, clean, and open, but with little nooks and crannies perfect for reading, dreaming, or chatting. Don't be misled so as to think Seatuck Cove House is quiet all of the time! There is lively chatter in the bright and sunny kitchen, laughter in the recreation room, and perhaps even a few grunts in fully equipped exercise room! The Seatuck Cove House is perfectly situated so that guests can easily enjoy the beauties of both the Hamptons and LI Wine Country.
