Vitamins for babies?
Does anyone give their babies vitamins or have spoken to the doctor about this. We go for our 3 month appointment this week and I have to ask him about this. Megan is on low iron which worries me because I feel she is not getting the vitamins she needs.
My dear friend Rachel said her ped told her not until 6 months, is this the norm?

Re: Vitamins for babies?
Are you BFing? While I was BFing Kaylee, our ped had us give her vitamin drops. With Christopher, I wasn't BFing and we started giving him vitamins around 6 months, after he started cutting teeth.

No I am not bf'ing, never have. But the only formula she seems to handle well is similac low iron which concerns me since she is not on advanced.

Hmm, I can see why you'd be concerned. All I can say is give your ped a call and ask about it.

they usually start them on vitamins at 6 months. if they become anemic they will start them on iron supplements before that.

Re: Vitamins for babies?
Most doctors tell moms who are BFing to give TriViSol, which contains Vitamins A, D and C and iron because not all vitamins pass into breast milk. If you are giving formula, there is enough of those vitamins in the formula that you don't need to supplement with vitamins. At 6 months, most babies are started on vitamins with flouride. I believe at around 9 months they will check the babies hemoglobin level to determine if they are anemic and at that point, will prescribe iron drops if needed. Prior to that, I wouldn't worry -- many babies are on low iron formula.

I don't know about vitamins. I would be interested in knowing too. I am however going to ask about flouride drops since we have well water and Liam already has 1 tooth.
