Re: Wading River/Shoreham, want to know more
the little I know, its a beautiful area, especially north of 25a, we were looking in that area but the commute is just way too far for us. you want beach rights, we only considered north of 25 a. shoreham wading river schools are pretty good, heard one of the elementary schools dont have a cafeteria the students eat lunch with their mentors. taxes can be high. love the area looked at a home right on the sound too but again the commute is far. its exit 68 off lie but you have another 20 minutes off the lie to hit shoreham/wading river. good luck. hth

I grew up in Wading River. It's a beautiful area. It's split between Riverhead School district and Shoreham Wading River SD. FYI, SWR was one of the very few districts to not have their budget passed. They are raising their property taxes somewhere around 25-27%.

When is this going through? Thanks for hte input.
Question is would you live there now, why not if so?

As far as I know, even if Shoreham is on an austerity budget, it will go up 25%. I'm assuming that will be in place in 2010. However, the Riverhead side of Wading River is in a different SD, and their property taxes aren't going up anywhere near that much.
The only reason I wouldn't move there is because it would be a long commute. If I could work at Brookhaven Lab or something, I would love to move out there.

My one BIL and his family live in Shoreham, another in Wading River. They all seem to love it.
All the kids went to/go to SWR school district.

I wouldn't live in the Riverhead SD, but a friend of mine is a Principal in Shoreham/Wading River, and I am very impressed with her work and the district.
