Waking up Dry!

Does anyone else wake up in the morning very dry b/c of the heat?

Would anyone know if a humidifier would help?

Again, Mommy brain took hold of me for the second time on this board today! I'm thinking to myself, "She doesn't have a baby, does she?"

Re: Waking up Dry!

Both DH and I do and so we got a humidifier for the bedroom and it seems to help a little bit. I also keep a glass of water on my night stand so if I wake up in the middle of the night I can take a sip.

Re: Waking up Dry!

I always had this problem too - I mentioned it to my MD last year, and she suggested taking a Q-tip with Vaseline on it and rubbing in around the inside of my nose. (Basically coat the inside of my nose w/ a very thin layer of Vaseline.)

I tried it that very night, and lo and behold, no dry cracking nose in the morning!

I do it almost every night in the winter, and it really works great. I don't like the way my skin reacts to a humidifier, so the Vaseline was a nice, inexpensive fix.

Yes, every morning I have a bloody nose (sorry TMI) and my throat is killing me. The humidifier definitely helps though. My dog even wakes up coughing. Chat Icon

Me too - I'm blowing my nose and getting a bloody nose....I thought it was TMI - hence why I didn't state it.

Off to buy a humidifer.

Just make sure you clean it out every day!! It's very easy for mold to grow in there if you don't.

Re: Waking up Dry!

Before you go out and buy one, investigate two things:

The difference between cool mist and warm mist humidifiers (one promotes mold and you have to clean it more often, I forget which one though) and the cost/availability of replacement filters.

I found out, only after buying a humidifier, that the filters were really hard to come by. Now I buy filters that are too big for it and have to cut them to size. Chat Icon

Re: Waking up Dry!

I do if I forget to turn the heat down to 62-64 (from 68). A humidifier would help...but I would just put some layers on the bed and turn the heat down.

Re: Waking up Dry!

I use a humidifier at night and it definitely helps.

I've also tried the vaseline on q-tip trick (suggested by my doctor) and that works.

When I've had bloody noses, I use bacitracin instead of vaseline. Just a thin coating, gently rubbed on the inside of my nose seems to heal the inside of my nose and keeps it from drying out.

Re: Waking up Dry!

just a reminder - Humidifiers use a lot of energy - the same as running an A/C.

my grandma said she would put a small amount of water in an aluminum tin and place it in front of the heat, so it picks up the moisture.

Fh and I are getting a fishtank - that will put water in the air, plus its prettyChat Icon
