walking dog with stroller...
I'm curious about this...for those who have both kids and a dog, did you practice walking with the stroller first or just go for it? My baby is due the end of May so it will be the perfect time for walks with the stroller and pooch. Any ideas on how to prepare my puppy for this new adventure???

I practiced with the dog and the stroller before the baby arrived. ( it was suggested by the trainer) I thought it was great idea. I wanted the dog to get used to it.

If you didnt buy your stroller yet, get one that you can do a one hand push with. we have a safety first car seat stroller and we cannot do a one hand push with it. Its so annoying. I end up walking my dog and putting DD in a carrier because its easier.
Our dog was fine with the stroller and she doesnt usually stray when she walks.

Re: walking dog with stroller...
Took Dh with us for our first walk. Dog had no issues with the stroller so the next time I went alone. My stroller is fine being pushed with one hand but i also just wrap the leash around my hand and push with two. If I see something that might get my dog's attention or cause her to pull, I slow down hold the leash and push with one. I've never had a problem but my dog is also really low key.

Mine is definitely not low key...haha!! He is a spaz!!! But when we walk he tends to stay to my left even if I try to get him to go to right so I think that will be beneficial!! We also use a retractable leash so maybe I'll need to change that....hmmmm

Definitely get a different leash. Retractable leashes offer the least control. Go for a short leash that promises he will stay at your side.

This exactly...walking with just the dog she can go a little crazy in all directions, but when the stroller is with us she knows to stay right next to it. So strange but I never taught her to do that!

I got the dog after I had DD and the dog had never walked on a leash before. We got a gentle lead collar that has worked wonders at keeping him at my side and not pulling. The vet recommended it.

I walk our dog with my strollers, both my Maclaren Volo and my Joovy Caboose. I have a 6ft leash that has a second handle on it. I loop one loop on each hand and drive the stroller. She is still learning leash manners but does well next to the stroller.

When I would walk him along would stay next to me. When I would walk with the stroller, he would stay next to the stroller! He had no issues adjusting. But he is a 70 pound boxer, and if he was to see a squirrel, I would drop the leash! If he were to pull while I was holding the stroller , the stroller could tip. never happened thank God! Never had an issue though. My dog actually walks better off leash.
