Walmart shopper slaps crying child

WTH?!

STONE MOUNTAIN, Ga. -- A Wal-Mart shopper who became so angry about a crying child that he allegedly slapped the girl in the face is due in court Wednesday.

Investigators said the incident happened Monday at the Stone Mountain store on Rockbridge Road.

A police report said the man, Roger Stephens, 61, of Stone Mountain, had warned the child’s mother, Sonya Mathews, that if she didn’t quiet down the child, he would do it for her.

According to the report, after the mother failed to quiet the girl, Stephens came up to them and slapped the child several times in the face.

The report then quotes Stephens as saying, “See, I told you I would shut her up.”

Mathews then screamed at Stephens and called for security, the report said. Stephens was stopped by another shopper, according to the report.

The girl, identified in the report as Paige Mathews, 2, was not injured, but did suffer some redness in the face. She was treated at the scene and released, the report said.

Stephens was charged with cruelty with children in the first degree, which is a felony.

OMG!!!

what is wrong with people? who does that?

if anyone did that to my child they would have to pull me off him and i would end up in jail too

i cannot even imagine... i am fuming for that mother! and that poor child! he slapped her SEVERAL times??? what the fffffffff...

Yeah we all thought of doing that to some screaming child, but really who actually carries that thought out. The guy should go to jail.

OMG that is horrible! If anyone did that to my child they'd have to peel me off of them and throw me in jail too

Totally wrong...and I couldnt even IMAGINE that happening to my DD nor in front of me. I would of bugged!

On a positive note this dude's life savings would belong to my child once the criminal phase is over. YAY College!!!! What a d*CKHEAD and I have to say I am amaaaaaaaaaaazed at what "normal" people do and say to babies, seriously.

As a new mom I've never felt the rage that surged through my body when I tried to imagine someone laying a hand on DD. I'm shaking!

OMG I would kill someone who laid a finger on my child.

I would have went to the sporting goods aisle, grabbed a bat and beat this man to a pulp...bc that is what he deserves.

In protest, I think everyone with crying babies should attend the court...until the judge comes in - make him listen to a room full of crying babies.
