Want to extend driveway, please help! *Updated 11/27*
We live in the Town of Oyster Bay. I have made several calls and haven't gotten a return call yet. We would like to extend our driveway to make it big enough for 2 cars. We need to remove 1 tree which is btwn the street and sidewalk and we would need to extend the curb that goes to the driveway.
What are the rules for cutting down trees? Is the tree town property? What about extending the curb.. Do we need permits?
I couldn't find much online. Any information or advice is greatly appreciated. TY!
*UPDATE!* I called the town again today. I guess there weren't busy or they were in a good mood b/c of the holiday. Anyway, I spoke to someone at length and they told me to fill out a form for the tree. DH and I brought the form in and spoke to them. We made an appointment for someone to come over THIS week to inspect the tree. Since it is breaking the sidewalk, the town might remove the tree. I will be home at the time of the inspection. They said once it is "marked" it will take anywhere between 30-90 days for it to be removed. When we were there, I got the form for the driveway work. It's permit and costs $100. Let's hope they say they will remove the tree!
If that goes well, I'll need to start looking into contractors for the spring! Any recommendations????

I've been looking into a new driveway as well. I don't know about Oyster Bay, but in Smithtown, the tree is town property and you do need a permit.

Re: Want to extend driveway, please help!
touching the curb you will defiantly have to go through the town. Have you considered keeping it one car entry but extending after that? We did that and I love it! And we didnt have to deal with the town at all as its all on our property.
We extended o urs from a 2 car (back to back) so now it can hold about 6

Re: Want to extend driveway, please help!
We need to make it a 2 car entry. The problem is our driveway is next to our neighbors...with 1 parking spot in between and a big patch of grass. It is the only place we can park and the neighbor is angry that we park there (even though he has 3 spots in front of his house). Extending the driveway and the curb would solve the problem.

Re: Want to extend driveway, please help!
definitely call the town and do as they request but also keep in mind some towns have green laws, like mine, brookhaven....... so if you take down a tree you have to plant another 1 on your property
