Want to transition DD (4 weeks old) to crib but she rolls over from back to tummy

DD is 4 weeks today. She is still in our room in the FIsher Price Rock N Sleeper thingy. I want to transition her to her crib, but she sometimes rolls over when put on her back and doesn't have the neck control to get out of a smothering situation if necessary. (Her rolling over is a very long ugly process - not the official rollover that would count as a milestone.. she kind of wiggles and tenses her body until it happens, she's been doing this for two weeks now).

Do I have any other options?

I was thinking at the very least of moving her sleeper to the nursery, but fear that she'll never like the crib if we don't start it early.

Personally, I would leave her at this point. It is not worth it since you are concerned and there is little you can do IMO to stop her. Maybe a sleep positioner? You can try again in a few weeks. She is still so new that I wouldn't worry about her liking or disliking the crib.

My boys hated their cribs at first and would only sleep in their bouncy seats. Finally, we put their bouncy seats IN the cribs so they got used to their surroundings in the crib. Within a few weeks, we removed the bouncy seats and they've been sleeping in their cribs ever since. U may want to wait a few more weeks and then try it again.

This is what we did. We transitioned her to the crib later, I don't remember when (maybe around 3 months?), but it only took a couple of nights and she was fine.

before i transitioned her to her crib at night, i had her nap in the crib. you can watch them and they get used to sleeping in the crib. this might help ease your fears of not liking the crib.

i would try a sleep positioner as well. some were recalled but not all. i got mine for $10 at BRU and it wasn't recalled (at least i don't think it was). its the first years air flow i believe.

Re: Want to transition DD (4 weeks old) to crib but she rolls over from back to tummy

she is only 4 weeks, why rush her to the crib? DS turned 4 months old last week and we just moved him to his crib. He transitioned with no problem. for the last 2 months Ive been putting him down for naps in his crib, so he was already use to being in their.

If you are concerned and do want er in the crib I would roll up 2 recieving blankets and place them at her sides to prevent her from rolling.Chat Icon

ETA: what about swaddling her so she doesnt roll?

I agree. DS slept in our room in his bassinet until he reached the 15lb weight limit around 4-5 months old. During the day, I'd have him nap in the crib so when we finally transitioned him to the crib at night, it went smoothly.

I'm glad you ask... I have no idea why I have the 4 week mark in my head, I'm certainly in no rush but I feel like I've read that it's now or never, that it will be a tough transition if we wait.

I am a little anxious to get her in the nursery though for my well being. Having her in the room means very little sleep for me as I wake up with every grunt and groan and worry.

Thanks ladies!

We had DS in the Rock & Play Sleeper until he was 4-4.5 months old. He transitioned without much trouble to the crib.

Your DD sounds like mine. Get her out of your room ASAP!

If I slept in the same room as her I would get NO sleep, she is the loudest sleeper ever!

I dont think it is a rush to get her in the crib if you aren't comfortable with that though, just get her into the nursery and see how you feel.
