Re: Was anyone near the steam pipe explosion...
I was in Grand Central when it happened and everyone started running outside into the street because people were saying the building was collapsing. SO everyone ended up running out into the street to where it was happening. Then everyone started yelling bomb and that the building was collapsing. It did look like much worse than a pipe bomb. So, just like I did on 9/11 and everyone else did, we all started running down the street. There were shoes and bags left in the middle of the street, and somepeople were pushing. what made me laugh was that all the NYers were running and the tourists were standing there taking pictures!! What sucked was that it took me 2 hours to get in to city this morning and it took me 2 hours to get out! It sucked. Just an hour before I was so excited because I had my first US and saw the baby's hearbeat. I am a little nervous because I had all this soot (?) on my clothes, shoes and bag and god knows what I was breathing. By the time I got home, I had a severe headache and was exhausted, but glad to be home!

Re: Was anyone near the steam pipe explosion...
As per the news 41st - 43rd between Vanderbilt and 3rd are all "frozen zones". Don't know if they will still be frozen tomorrow...
ETA: 4,5,6,7 and S train service is may be disrupted along with express buses to Manhattan.
Good luck to those who attempt to make it in tomorrow if you work in that area. Thank god I'm on maternity leave, because the 6 and S are what I take to get to work!

Re: Was anyone near the steam pipe explosion...
My office is closed today. I am happy to get a day off but scared of what its going to be like when I go back. And if I will find out in 20 years I had been breathing in asbestos or something crazy like that....
