Was I the last to know about Vicks on the bottoms of feet??
A woman I work with suggested putting vicks vaporub on the bottom of my sons feet, then socks on to get rid of his cough...It worked!!! I looked it up on the internet and apparently I was the last to know!

I am curious. Is it regular Vicks or baby vicks. Do I do the older peoples vicks on the older kids and the baby on Lucas? Do they both work?

wow thats weird.. I never knew that, what kind of cough does it work on? A cold cough or just a tickle cough? and does baby have to be a certain age?

this isn't true and I was told by a nurse that it's actually bad for the baby b/c they're so small the absorbtion is too much. IT's an old wives tale

There is a baby vicks to put on their chests...what's the difference? (Baby vicks is three months and up)
It has worked on both of my boys (almost 2 and four months). I didn't slather a whole container on their feet every second...I did it once before bed and once in the am when they got up when I felt their coughs were the worst. They both had upper respiratory coughs (nasal drip,etc)...Of course I did everything else humidifier, elevating the bed, saline drops, nasal aspirator...but this was the only thing that stopped the cough.

I think I might be the ;ast to know. How cool is that.......... I think that for me - knowing DS - putting the rib on his feet withsocks would not draw any attention towhat I am doing. He would be annoyed if I put it on his chest.

We do it when DD had her first cold a few weeks ago - and within 2 days she was all better.

I have 3 kids and I only learned about this a week or 2 ago. My niece and nephew were coming for a sleepover and my SIL told me to do it for my niece.

There is an old thread somewhere and there were a lot of moms who had tried it. I did not want to believe it until I saw how many moms said it worked.

The difference is when you put it on their chest, you leave their shirt loose, and the objective is for them to breathe in the "vapors". There is very little systemic absorption. When you put it on their feet, and then especially when you put socks on, you are increasing the absorption of the product. As a pharmacist, when I first heard about this, I looked into it alot and found alot of people saying that it worked great for their kids. I could not however find any info on the safety of the stuff being absorbed into the system. I know it would probably work when Marron gets a cold, but I'm not going to do it because there is no info anywhere on the safety of its absorption into the system.
