was I wrong ? (tip and hair cut/style related)

I went to get my hair trimmed yesterday. I had been there 2x before and normally when the guy cuts my hair he styles it too.
So the hairdresser cut my hair and when he was done he asked a girl who was there to style my hair (so he could go and start doing someone else's hair , a girl who was obviously his friend) BUT I didn't say anything even though I was annoyed. When I was done they said it was $50 so I pay at the front desk .... So out of nowhere the front desk person says to me, don't forget to tip the girl who styled your hair too. I m sorry, but I never asked to have someone else style my hair. Chat Icon when I go to a hairdresser I expect them to cut AND style my hair and I don't plan on tipping 2 people .
So I took 20% tip, divided it 50/50 and gave it to each and left without saying anything .
I was so annoyed and kinda angry.

How would you have handled the situation? Was I wrong to tip them the way I did?

I think you were right on about how you tipped. I would have done the exact same thing!

I agree with what you did. I wouldn't have paid any extra because your appointment that you made with one stylist suddenly became 2.

Like you said - you didn't ASK to have 2 people style your hair when you made the appointment.

If your stylist chose to have someone else finish the appointment - than you're not obligated to tip that 2nd person. Let them handle how she is going to get compensated.

Not sure why he wanted to go start another appointment - I'm assuming it was because he was behind.

If thats the case - my hairdresser has her next appointment prepped for her. She sends them to get washed. It buys her time to finish up with who she's with.

The receptionist had some gawl to "remind" you to tip the 2nd stylist. Chat Icon

I would have done the same.

I would be very upset if I made an appointment with my hairdresser and she did not style it as well

Not only did you do the right thing, but they had some nerve REMINDING you to tip.
A tip is not to be expected.
It's for good service.
Nobody should tell you to tip.
It's at YOUR discretion.

I would have done the same. If it's one stylist's job, you split the tip.

I think you did the right thing by splitting the tip

I would have done the same.

Also a tip is never guaranteed.

I would complain.

This happens to me ALL the time - someone washes my hair, my guy cuts it, then another blows it out.

I usually take what I think is a good amount of tip for the whole process and split it up among the three people based on how I feel they took care of me. I refuse to tip EXTRA just because he is behind!
