Water damage on rug?
We have a humidifier in our bedroom that leaked water onto the rug. I'm trying to blot it all up with towels and drying it with a hairdryer. Any suggestions on anything else I can do? Are there cleaners for rugs? The rug is giving off a musty smell

Re: Water damage on rug?
Spray with lysol (spot test first) or try rug wipes. YOu could also sprinkle baking soda on the spot, let it sit and vacuum it up, but you will need to wait until it is dry.
Run a fan over the area also to help it dry.

I would steam clean it.

Steam clean it. I'm not sure if you would do that before or after it dries but I think it has to be done. My dad was in the carpet and rug business for his entire career and he never really had a better solution than this.

Thanks for the suggestion!! Do you know how much this costs? Do I do it myself or hire a service?

A lot of stores rent them. Sears hardware I know does. I've seen them in some supermarkets as well.
If you have carpeting in your house (not just area rugs), you might want to look into buying your own. The usual places have them (Sears, Target, Walmart, etc). You can get a good one for under $200. Then you can steam clean the carpets whenever you want, and as often as you want.
